Whhhhyyyyyyyy?

The Disney Parks blog has a post about Duffy the bear today.

Yup. Still looks cheap and generic.

Also, I call shenanigans on the comments. Every Disney forum I've been looking at has been filled with "DO NOT WANT" while this is filled with "OMG YAY!"

That post makes Mickey and Duffy's relationship seem a bit... kinky.

It looks more like a monkey to me than a bear. And not a cute monkey.

It is a bit off, isn't it?

There are some that are more neutral than enthusiastic (e.g., the grumbling about not being able to readily find Mickey merchandise at Tokyo DisneySea because it was crowded out by Duffy stuff), but yeah. I smell mod interference.

Seriously, he looks like a generro-bear that someone dressed in an outfit taken off of a Disney character doll.

I have no problem with Disney inventing new characters. But this one is b-o-r-i-n-g!

The handy thing with the comments is all you can see are names - not profiles. Not that I have any interest in people's profiles, but it makes it really easy to add a few yourself.

And yeah, very boring. Generic is the best word I've found for it.

I'm probably going to get shunned and/or slaughtered for this, but I think he looks precious. (The Mickey Mouse prints on his feet? Too cute.)

LOL I just think the bear looks cute. Not really invested in the story or anything, just a sucker for a bear in a costume. (There's a reason I don't go near Build-A-Bear shops... I'd never leave.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
To me it just doesn't seem like it fits with the rest of their stuff.

I agree.

But still... *weak moment* it's cute. Not really Disney material, but cute.

(And weird coincidence: My brother, who's a sailor in the US Navy, turns 25 on the 14 of October, the debut date of the bear, who is wearing a sailor outfit.)

Awwwwww!

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite part of the comments is people wondering why they changed the story of the origin of the bear. "We have the bear and the book about him. Why are they changing the story?"

XD

"Because barely anyone bought it last time around!"

Countdown to Pedobear being 'shopped into those pics in 3... 2... 1...

You know, it would not surprise me in the least if that blog is heavily moderated. I worked for the corp. very briefly just at the customer service level during university. And suffice to say, they were a little intense about the synergy of their message. Their words - not mine.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's for sure moderated. I've made a few comments over there before and everything has to be approved by the moderator before it shows up.

I sort of like him. He's got a retro look. Then again I am strange. :/ Like the stay puft marshmallow man.

But now I like him more because he's like a misfit toy no one likes. Poor bear....

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
You can have him. :D

Sorry about the crazy, upsetting Disney shenanigans, but I need to applaud you for your most awesome and appropriate use of that hyperbole and a half icon ;-P

I love that blog way too much. XD
