  • Why are 99% of pre-made Halloween costumes for women either ultra slutty or...a witch? (Although sometimes they're not mutually exclusive.) *EYES COSTUME MAKERS*

  • I finally saw Iron Man 2 and Tony/Pepper cracks me up so much. That is all.

  • I had a kangaroo paw plant on my patio that flopped and died during this last heat wave. I suppose I should plant something else, but I'm not sure what I want. I've already got a pot of celosias and I had primroses last winter. (Don't really want them again.) *ponders* I'd really like a Chinese lantern plant, but it's too late to find any. I really don't want pansies. I want something a bit different looking. (Why I attempted the kangaroo paw.)

LOLOL, I was JUST having this conversation with a girlfriend while we walked through the costumes at Target!

XD

*mutters at costume designers*

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, aside from body image issues... if I want to dress up to give out candy, slutty really isn't the way to go. Winter jacket with a nurse's costume? Not going to work.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-10-02 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Omg ikr? Even when I was little Canada was ruining all the fun costumes. Halloween was like an engineering feat of "what can I dress up as while still wearing a winter jacket underneath".

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you know those "signs you're from..." lists? Every list that has signs that you're from anywhere in Canada is that kids costumes are designed to go over winter jackets.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-10-02 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
lol so true. I'm not daring enough to wear any of the more revealing costumes, but nonetheless I am glad I have at least reached an age where I can spend most of Halloween inside.

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually like sitting outside giving out candy, but brr. My ass is growing cold thinking about it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
You need a heating pad to sit on! XD

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, that's an idea.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I never have that problem. :D (Although I think it rained on Halloween one year. I think.)

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*eyes* Are you trying to kill me? I'm usually sitting outside wearing a jacket and holding a cup of tea. lol

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yoiu realize you've just jinxed yourself, right? :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
If it would snow here on Halloween, it would be AWESOME. :D

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*eyes* That reminds me, my mother maintains she has seen snow in every month but July. Can I run away?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen snow in July! It was in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, but still. :D

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that's just cheating. :P I kid, I kid. If you want a true winter experience find a two foot snowbank to climb over so you can walk in the middle of the road where it's safest to walk. *nod*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2010-10-02 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
HDU IT SNOWS ON HALLOWEEN EVERY YEAR

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry. The average high on Halloween for me is 77 (aka 25).

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why I have never bought a pre-made Halloween costume, upon reaching the point when my mother no longer made my costumes (which would be 6th grade, I think?) I never want to be anything they sell anyway, especially not if they are slutty or a witch. Stupid Halloween costume designers. One of my friends went to the departmental party as an old school ghost last year, wearing a sheet with holes cut in it. It was brilliant!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
XD It'd be fun to do the old-school ghost thing!

[identity profile] kitsune17.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I've grown used to the minuscule costumes that the Slootpocalypse has to offer.

The thing that pissed me off during my wander through the local Spirit is that they're aiming they're sluttishness towards children now. "Sexy cop" was actually offered in toddler size, as well as the sexed up versions of Goldilocks, Alice in Wonderland, and other known princesses.

I was appalled.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
UGH. It's disgusting how we train little girls to continue on with this crap. Why aren't there any "sexy" little boy outfits? Because girls/women are, in essence, objects.

[identity profile] maypanic.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to suspect this is probably because men run the costuming business, but sadly I fear it's also what many women want to buy. An excuse to run around in public in what is practically lingerie, woo!

It's kind of amazing there aren't more options for mature women, though. Something between slut and huge shapeless things like cows or clowns.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind if someone wants to get all streetwalker for a night of fantasy. I just resent that it's the only choice.

Something between slut and huge shapeless things like cows or clowns.

That's pretty true for regular clothes too, sadly.

[identity profile] acciochocolate.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who has worked in sales of clothing and shoes off and on, your last sentence there is rather true. Argh.

And I really hate that little girls' clothes is basically slutwear. Dress the little ones like children, not like some slutty teen-ager, for gosh sakes!

Really, really glad that I don't have children whom I would have to argue with every day about their clothes, because the other kids would make fun of them for not wearing slutwear. And this is part of why I think school uniforms are a good idea. The other part is financial. With school uniforms, no one can tell the rich kids from the poor kids. And teachers often fave the rich, pretty jock kids over the poor, not-so-attractive, nerdy kids. (Those adjectives are meant to be broken down into different categories of course!)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Uniforms really does seem like the way to go.

[identity profile] catyuy.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are 99% of pre-made Halloween costumes for women either ultra slutty or...a witch? (Although sometimes they're not mutually exclusive.) *EYES COSTUME MAKERS*
Because this is the excuse for women to dress like sluts in public and for men to enjoy it.

Here's one I found which I want to buy but lack the cash.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
HA! That's a wild mask! Did the Death Eaters wear those? I can't remember.

[identity profile] catyuy.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup the Death Eater wore them.
The majority of the costumes Spirit sales are slutty but the ones that aren't are pretty cool.

[identity profile] shinkonokokoro.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it's an excuse for girls to look like a slut and not be condemned for it? ;)

I. LOVE. Iron Man 2. Tony and Pepper are hilarious together. I love it!!! :)

What about a lucky bean plant? Or a bromiliard? (I think that's the way you spell it. They're kind of fun-coloured sometimes.) I love plants. :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind dressup fun; I just mind that it's the ONLY dressup fun.

Tony and Pepper - I laughed out loud a couple of times. XD

And hmmm. I might have to take a look at those, although I do get full, direct sun for part of the day. And sometimes it can get pretty hot, even in winter.

[identity profile] shinkonokokoro.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Then a lucky bean plant may not be the best option, if I remember correctly. I think they take full-light though. And bromiliards are the same. I think they take full light as well.

Tony and Pepper are hilarious. I love seeing her verbally smacking him around every so often. :) She really does care.

[identity profile] firstofoct.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly why I usually end up somehow creating my own Halloween costumes. It's cold here in October, so I could never wear something too revealing. But it's actually more fun, IMO, to make your own costume. I usually find some awesome things at Goodwill or even on eBay that aren't expensive at all.

Plus, it allows my inner nerd/fangirl to shine through. LMAO.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually end up skipping it, even though we have an event at work. I just can never find anything I'd want to wear. :D

[identity profile] firstofoct.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You have an event for work? FUN! IDK, when I was little, I loved dressing up, so being able to do it as an adult is fun. This year I'm doing an IL-inspired 50s outfit. :D

[identity profile] ivydoor.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I can totally understand. And it's not just women's sized costumes. Junior/pre-teen sizes are just as bad. And boys costumes stop at size 10/12, and when you have a 9 year old in size 14/16 just due to height, it's extremely difficult.

FWIW, this is the costume I found my 11 yr old. I am so glad she's into the gore thing, because her brother hates anything slightly scary, so combined with the size issue it's making it fairly impossible to find anything for him.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I like that zombie queen thing! It's fun!

[identity profile] typbrunette.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I um...I liked the Tony/Pepper stuff? I did laugh, 'cause they're funny, but also I liked them? Do I lose points?

Also, I saw a slutty Nemo costume. And a slutty Elmo costume. That is all.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I liked them too! Mostly because they make me laugh. :)

I got emailed a slutty Nemo costume, which is what started this all. *eyes certain people*

[identity profile] meeshy.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
Why are 99% of pre-made Halloween costumes for women either ultra slutty or...a witch? OMG tell me about it! I need a costume for a halloween party and I can't find anything....

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Depressing, isn't it?

[identity profile] nicachick007.livejournal.com 2010-10-05 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
1. Agreed. This especially pisses me off because A) I do not have a physique made to go into a slutty costume, witch or otherwise. That is not to say I am morbidly obese, since I am far from it, but I don't even remember the last time I wore a pair of shorts because I don't have the thighs to pull them off, much less a frilly little skirt. B) DECENY PLEASE AND THANKS. C) I've been a witch like three times already. I need something new. Kthnxbai.

2. Hu-yeah. She rocks. He rocks. They rock. The end.

3. For some reason, when I read that, I coulda sworn for a second that "kangaroo" isn't a real word. Now I'm kinda thinking it really isn't and we've all just believed some lying zoologist.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-05 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
1. It's just sort of sad, really.

2. :D

3. Kangarooooooooooo!

[identity profile] acciochocolate.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Your first remark is so true! If I were to make a long comment, it would be snarky and educational and probably depressing. Argh!

On the other hand, I was happy to see in Target lots of different Star Wars costumes for kids. However, where are the Leia and Padme costumes? Nevermind, they would probably be the stupid white jumpsuits anyhow.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I really doubt I'll wear a costume this year. Again. Thanks, costume makers.
