The episode that finally made me get a S5 icon.

FINALLY! This is what I've been waiting for ever since the beginning of S5. In my Vampire post I was complaining about the writing being very surface-y. And while the rest of S5 might go back into this mode, Amy's Choice actually had some substance to it.

I've seen plenty of sci-fi shows doing the fantasy world scenario (including DW), but this had a clever twist. Amy rejecting Rory's idealized world was actually choosing Rory - very cool. And the whole Dream Lord thing is quite an insight into the Doctor's mind. His darker side pushes people away while simultaneously taunting him about having no one. (And if that isn't exactly what was happening with Ten during the Specials...)

So yeah. Very clever.

Plus I finally got to see the Amy/Rory adorableness, including finally believing that Amy actually loves Rory. Awwwwwww! :)

You think it's worse than Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead? You surprise me. (Although at least the former had Ten & Donna. Hmmm.) I do find the next two episodes very boring, however, relieved only by the ending of the second episode (and not just because it's the end).

The Dream Lord is my favorite villain that I've seen on DW. There's something so fascinating about the idea of hating yourself so much that your self-hatred manifests as an alter-ego. I felt really sad for Eleven when it was revealed (though I was expecting it) because I love Eleven so much that I WANT HIM TO LOVE HIMSELF, DAMMIT. The Doctor KNOWS what his flaws are, but this is the first time I've really felt that and the way it was done was eerie as hell and I LOVED IT.

I love that we finally get a peek into the Doctor's head here. There's some angst and emotional depth that the rest of the season sometimes lacks.

This episode was good for my "Eleven has issues, *really* he's got to," stance. And how Amy totally does not get that, and Rory just kind of suspects but doesn't really know and stays out of it.

Also have to ever so slightly disagree with people up thread, it's not the *worst* two-parter ever, there are still the episodes that will not be named for that. This one is more forgettable.

Yeah, this was the episode that really cemented my feeling that Eleven was, indeed, the same guy as Ten, Nine, Eight... etc. He's just somewhat more well-adjusted than his two predecessors.

LOL I watched this episode the first time in a bout of hockey induced misery and hysteria so I unjustly thought I didn't like it for the longest time. And then I re-watched it a few days ago and spent the whole time going :D :D :D and thinking it was great, so I am very sorry for misjudging you, Amy's Choice.

This episode is definitely one of my favorites from series 5. I think that the main reason for this is that the Dream Lord is the closest we get to any real Time Lord Angst from Eleven. I love that Eleven's subconscious is just messing with him. hahaha.

Lol I actually didn't think much of this episode. I have a lot of feelings about the Dream Lord and basically I preferred the Daleks.

I did kinda like finally feeling I had a hold on Amy/Rory. But that all vanished in the next episode. I also liked Amy pretending she was about to give birth RIGHT THERE, RIGHT THEN because that was great. XD

And I plan on NEVER EVER watching Cold Blood. The first half of the two-parter was bad enough.

It seemed pretty cool. The only way to choose Rory was to choose the Doctor's world. What I take from that is that Amy really wants something somewhere in the middle. And more power to her. It's ridiculous to think that either you're flying around on adventures or you have a white picket fence. That there's nothing in between.

I've noticed many people have wider opinions about their "liking" and their "disliking" of the episodes. I generally keep with "this is a really good episode" to "Okay, I've seen it once, that's enough".

Guess I just like the show and would rather just stay focused on what I like rather than bitching about what I don't like. Keeps me happier that way...
