You really don't want my money, do you?

This weekend my main mission was clothes shopping. I could do with just about everything, and I figured it was a good time since I'm getting a tax refund. I went in willing to spend some bucks. And then I encountered The Ugly.

I think part of the issue is that I need a lot of Business Casual. Not suits and dresses, but not cotton tops. But many stores' ideas of Business Casual involves catering to the over-60 crowd. In 1985. I only tried on clothes in 2 stores, and only wound up getting 2 tops for work and a purse.

And then there were the shoes. I prefer ankle-length dress boots in the winter. But for some reason (known only to feeble fashion minds) they decided that all dress boots will have giant spiked heels. Not only does this look mildly ridiculous, I actually have to walk around at my job instead of sit somewhere and look pretty all day.

Fashion is on my List at the moment.

Ugggghhhh clothes shopping. I perpetually have a hard time finding clothes that are age-appropriate for a 36 year old. No, I don't want booty shorts and spike heels, but likewise I do not want high-waisted mom jeans and hushpuppies. This is how I wind up developing A Uniform and just buying 8 of the same thing in different colours. Once I find something that fits, is age-appropriate, and looks good, I feel like I have to buy stock in the company for fear that I will never be able to find it again. I went to TJ Maxx this week and basically found the motherlode of henley tops, and bought ALL OF THEM. The time that I found not one but two full-length Danskin cotton/lycra dresses, one in black and one in brown, at Goodwill is a day that will live on in the annals of Awesome Days.

I'm exactly the same way. It seems like there's nothing in the middle there. Women only need black leather/lace or mom clothes, right? What else is there?

Ugh! THIS. If I'm going out somewhere that I need boots for, chances are I'm going to be walking about alot, I do not want to be coming home with blisters!

I've had to go bootless this winter due to being unable to find non heeled boots that fit me. (doesn't help that I'm in between size 3 and 4 and most shops only do four at the least size.)

It'd be nice if people actually made clothes you could live in.

I totally hear you. I've been finding boots impossibly hard this year. I've got some flat boots, but I would like some with a little bit of a heel -- not stilettos!

Yes! *mutters*

Ditto. I spent some 2 hrs at the mall on Saturday looking for some nice work clothes to add to my bitty wardrobe, and encountered only things meant for ladies 3 times my age or things that were see-through. No ta. Thus, two hours, and all I emerged with were cleaning supplies. :(

*nods* Should it really be so hard to not have other people see your bra?

UGH. Yes. It's like "seriously, no, I can't show off my rack at work, thanks" a lot of the time, too. Everything else about the shirt can be fine. And yet. *shakes fist* stupid clothing designers.

Right! Something looks nice on the hanger and you put it on and suddenly you're showing more than you would in a swimsuit.

I don't understand the slacks made of spandex that cling and show off everything through their thin, thin fabric. Like I'm really going to wear those to work. ICK.

Speaking of, one thing I did try on was something like pajamajeans. I laughed out loud when I had them on. I might wear them around the house, but there's no way I'd wear them outside. It was like wearing tights.

I'm so with you on the shoes. (For work my uniform was black slacks and a plain colored T-shirt from Target.)

I've been really wanting to buy lots of shoes lately, which I totally don't need. But I saw these nice flat ankle boots on sale for $30 and they're very tempting. Thought you might be interested.

Oooooooooh. Thanks!

Hear hear! I cannot seem to find things that are work- and age-appropriate and that I like and that don't cost a fortune and that are in my size.

So, you know, I'm like every other female (probably person) out there. *g*

You'd think someone would have tapped this market. But no!
