goldy_dollar has gone off to tumblrland, where she tells me that it's fashionable to place birds artfully in screencaps. And because I never want to be left out of a trend:

It took me a bit to get into it, but it hooked me around the third episode or so. The great thing about the writing for this is that often I thought something very predictable would happen, but then it didn't. It was nice not knowing exactly what would happen next.

The best thing, not only in this show but quite possibly in existence, was Maggie Smith vs. Penelope Wilton.

Yes, this is as awesome as you imagine it to be.

There were quite a few other interesting characters as well, including a burgeoning suffragette, a valet with a past, and a socialist radical. But even though there was a wide range of characters, it made it really clear that pretty much everyone's lives were not their own. That included the upper classes.

But just when I got really into the story, it ended! BAH! S2 won't air until fall. At least it's fall of this year. *eyes UK TV*

When I got to the end of Downton Abbey, I was so crushed. JUST AS I HAD STARTED ROOTING FOR EVERYONE. :|

The best thing, not only in this show but quite possibly in existence, was Maggie Smith vs. Penelope Wilton.

AGREED. And Maggie Smith being the stuck-in-the-past generation when it came to all the "new technology" was hilarious.

Actually I have been debating re-watching it. It's one of those shows where the dialogue was so clever I feel like I need to see it twice to catch everything. XD

Me too! I felt so sorry for Mary by the end despite what a douche she seemed to be at first. The show ended up taking this weirdly (if "weirdly" means "awesome") feminist bent about midway through which I think is also about when I started enjoying the hell out of it.

*nods* I also flopped a bit with Edith. At first I was sympathetic to her, but she got rather vicious. And then I kind of felt sorry for her by the end, but in a "you made your bed..." kind of way.

I really loved how the role of women was explored in various ways. Not just the suffragette stuff, but things like Mrs. Crawley being a nurse and getting so involved in the hospital.

Yes! And the sheer unfairness of it all that it was the wife's money that saved the estate and yet according to the term's of the will, the property could only go to a male relative. It was awful in every way but I loved watching the characters struggle through it.

PLEASE tell me I wasn't the only one who, when Penelope Winton's character would introduce herself, would say, "Yes, I know who you are."

If I'm not, I do care, I reject your reality and substitute my own!

I have to admit, tumblr frightens me, but if it's really all about putting pictures of birds in other pictures, I may have to give it another look. :)

I don't have much to add about Downton Abbey, but I loved loved loved Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton in it. I watched the whole thing, and I still don't remember most of the characters' names. It needs to come with an org chart to keep them straight. Also, I found it distracting that Steve from Blackpool was Matthew's butler. Made me giggle every time he was on screen.

LOL Oh god I hate that. I am not very good with faces in the first place and spend most movies in a haze of confusion.

I did like how they were starting to be almost friendly towards the end, but you just know there'll be many battles to come.

I had to look three times at the pic to see what the heck people were talking about. Obviously my powers of observation are broken.. or possibly the sigh factor of Nine and Rose overshadows the fact that the rock in the far right corner is not actually a rock.

As for tumbler, I just look at the ones pointed out to me via twitter and lj. My life has been hijacked enough by those. :)

I think it just means that the bird is so ~artistic~ it blended right in and simply added to the overall visual effect. *nods*
