I am not very familiar with Miss Marple and the only Christie book I have read was Poirot, but like... what I don't get is... if it is Hip and Cool bb Marple, what... makes it... different from any other generic Hip And Cool Detective story?
Oh ffs. I agree with chiroho Sherlock is kickass and updating Miss Marple could have been good but not if you change the basic traits of the character! She is, as you say, a little old lady [from England] who knits and solves crimes. This should not be changed!
Ugh. It's going to be unrecognizable. Part of the charm of Marple (or any of Christie's detectives) is that they're set in an age before lots of forensics. Her stories are psychological, which really only works if you don't have CSI flying in an solving everything through science.
If any role was perfect for the older actress THIS IS IT! I've always been in love with her novel And Then There Were None, but I must confess only a passing familiarity with the Miss Marple stories. Still, I must agree that casting Garner is just terrible. I wouldn't mind if it was someone who could actually pull off the accent...
Honestly, I was never terribly wild about the Marple books (*loves Tommy & Tuppence*), but I've absolutely loved the various adaptations of them. And I want someone old, British and awesome!
I would love to have Disney do Agatha Christie films, but only if they did it right. There is no WAY they can make Miss Marple young. And most definitely not Jennifer freaking Garner. I can't really take her seriously as an actress.
This will probably go under my list of "Disney movies I will refuse to ever ever see" along with Mars Needs Moms.
I saw this yesterday and couldn't quite believe it. The entire point of Miss Marple is that she's old and uncool and NO ONE SUSPECTS HER OF BEING ABLE TO SOLVE THE CRIME.

Seriously, did you watch Alias? Garner is TERRIBLE AT ACCENTS.
