I finally got a look at the DW S6 trailer.



Ooooh! It looks like there could be some fun stuff in S6! My interest level just went from Indifferent to Cautiously Interested. I might even watch that prequel thing that's floating around.

• Nine-Ten TARDIS interior? HMMMM. Looks like something dire is happening, so maybe the TARDIS is cycling through her screensavers? Because of...drama?
  
  
• Okay, honestly I don't really care about Who River Is. Basically she's had just as much characterization as anyone else in S5, even though they keep trying to tell us that she is a Mystery. I just... I'd call it beating a dead horse, but I'm not sure there was a horse there to begin with. (General wish for River: more competent kick-ass River and less Sweetie Darling River. God, that grates on me when she's in that mode.)
  
  
• Creepiness! I really hope Moffat has gotten his creepiness mojo back. Sorry, but nothing in S5 was even remotely scary.
  
  
• General note to Moffat on S6: please to be not writing the same things over and over, thanks. This includes anything solved because a future character told him/herself to do it (massive, massive, MASSIVE Writing Cheat For Dummies), and re-using villains. Daleks and Cybermen are reluctantly excused. iDaleks are not excused.

IA. The first time that I really found myself genuinely enjoying River was in The Pandorica Opens when she escaped from prison and left that cheeky lipstick doodle and when she was pretending to be Cleopatra. But everytime she says "spoilers!" or "hello sweetie", it's like nails on a chalk board to me.

I am always amused when somebody pretends to be Cleopatra! But really, I agree with all of this. Sometimes River is amazing, and then suddenly I find myself shrieking A CATCHPHRASE IS NOT CHARACTERIZATION until somebody shoves popcorn in my mouth.

Hahahahaha this was my response exactly when I heard it the first time. I facepalmed a little, like, Oh No. I always have the same reaction to the fire and ice and rage at the heart of Sainsbury's speeches. Please let's not talk about him like this. He has such a big ego already. In his last body he made himself Lord of Everything No Take Backs and made time itself eat a dirt sandwich for a second.

It makes me wish there was a trailer that was like, "The Doctor, he's not really all that impressive" and then he could act super offended about it.

I don't want to get my hopes up! But it does look fun, except for the usual part where Moffat continues to overcook the River mystery(really, it's his greatest moment AND darkest hour...because it's the day he finds out WHO SHE IS ZOMG). Also, maybe I am being ridiculous, but Matt's delivery of the killed them all line was kind of too flippant. I cannot believe the Doctor would ever talk about it that way. But! It does look better? I really hope for more than season five gave us.

Until the whole end of s5 for the marriage question at the end, I was thoroughly convinced Moffat was going for the...

RIVER: "Now, sweetie, don't make me spank you because in this form, dear, you're definitely still young enough for me to do it!"
DOCTOR: "Now?"
RIVER: "Don't tempt me, young..."
DOCTOR: "What?! Wait, you mean you didn't mean it... that way...?"
RIVER: gags, chokes, splutters. "NO! Why would you think that?"
DOCTOR: "Well, the whole sweetie thing... wait, wait, wait... my mother always called me... OH BY THE HAIRY BALLS OF RASSILON NO!"
RIVER: "Don't make me wash your mouth out with soap, young man... because I can, and I will if I catch you using that language in front of me again..."
DOCTOR: "Mother?"
RIVER: "NOW YOU FIGURE IT OUT!!"

Or she was a female-Jack... or Romana... but I was cycling through those three. The whole way she acts around him screams less lover/wife and more mother, except in s5 where it started to stray into lover/wife.

But in Silence in the Library, I was swearing up and down like a crazy banshee telling my husband that she's the Doctor's mother, surely...

Eh, other than continuing to love Matt Smith ridiculously so this didn't excite me more or less. I'll watch it (see: LOVE MATT SMITH RIDICULOUSLY SO!), but I don't expect it to be any better than series five, and unable to touch Rusty's stuff (for the most part -- Vincent and the Doctor was pure magic).

It looked cool! I have so little hopes for things like River's mystery~ finally being revealed, though, no matter what they tell us. THOUGH IT DOES SEEM LIKE MAYBE MOFFAT IS GETTING SOME NEW PLOTS? I like to live in hope. The music was also very razzle dazzling.

That is really a rather fantastic trailer. My squee factor ramped into high gear! I really liked the way he delivered the "fear me" line so offhand, it's the perfect flavor of bravado covering deeper emotions for Eleven. As you said, very like Nine in underplaying serious matters at times. Very not like Ten, ever. :P

Although, creepy sad clown in lonely hotel room? I'm not even coulrophobic and that gave me the screaming heeby jeebies.

And dude, they're actually recycling costume pieces both from last season and in multiple episodes. Shocking!
