Really Unfinished Fic This Time
Okay, so the last one I posted wasn't really unfinished. And I'm probably going to put it on my site (makes me look productive).
This one really is unfinished - for good reason. *cringe* It's basically scenes for an overall story I had in mind. It doesn't start at the beginning and there are massive holes.
The basic premise (not yet written) was - it was the future. Jack and Sam were married, Sam had SG-1, Jack was retired but did some consulting for the SGC so he was around. SG-1 had morphed into a mainly scientific unit with only Daniel and Jonas under Sam's command. Teal'c had become a leader among his people offworld. The story would have opened with Teal'c visiting the SGC informing them that Jacob had been captured with vital information - possibly that there were Goauld spies in the SGC and Jacob could provide names.
The first scene has them raiding the armory, trying to be covert and not tip off any possible spies.
No, this won't get written. Sam gets pregnant, people!!!! *whimper*
I suck.

Jack kept an eye on what was being packed. "We're gonna need more ammo."
Sam straightened up, a couple of P90 clips in her hand. "How much ya think?"
"Good afternoon Airman." Teal'c's voice boomed out in the hallway. Everyone froze. There was nowhere to hide in the small armory. Their only chance was that Teal'c could convince the airman that there was absolutely nothing of interest behind the locked door. Unfortunately, Chance was not with them at that moment. After a couple of minutes of a somewhat intense discussion in the hall, Jack heard the keycard being swiped and saw the light near the door switch from red to green.
Damn! Damn! Damn!
He didn't want to have to hurt one of his own people but…
Jack never had time to finish his thought – he felt his face being grabbed by two hands followed by his wife kissing him as if they had 30 seconds to live. What The Hell?
Daniel suddenly found the floor very interesting, Jonas' mouth dropped open and the airman just stared at the scene like a deer caught in the headlights. It was harder to tell who was the most confused: Jack, Jonas, Daniel or the guard.
Sam pulled away from Jack and in her most authoritative voice yelled, "What the hell's a matter with you Airman? A little privacy please? Haven't you ever seen anyone making out in the supply room before?!"
Still speechless the airman first looked at Jack and Sam, then Daniel, then Jonas.
"We, um, like to watch," Jonas said with a pained grin not failing to notice Jack's back stiffen at his remark.
Daniel looked up and crossed his arms over his chest. "Yes, Airman. Surely you've, uh, heard that SG-1 likes to do everything together." The eyes went back to the floor.
"Dismissed, Airman!" Sam barked.
The man was so stunned that he closed the door without a word.
Still looking at the closed door, Jack asked, "So which one of you boys wants to be hurt first?" He turned around to face them, Daniel and Jonas still not making eye contact with anyone.
"For crying out loud, Jack, it got rid of the guy, didn't it?" Sam asked.

Sam walked down the hall towards the elevator. Her emotions tearing her up. She was supposed to be giddy with excitement, right? But instead she couldn't help but focus on the incredibly bad timing. Which in turn was making her feel guilty. Of course, when had good timing ever come into play when it came to her and Jack O'Neill?
Sam attacked the elevator button. Now, joy of joys, she had to go and explain why she, the leader of SG-1 and Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, couldn't go on the mission to rescue her former teammate, her father and her husband. At least Jonas and Daniel would be more than understanding. And the general would probably turn into a big teddy bear on the spot. But she didn't want sympathy and understanding. She wanted to be on the rescue mission, dammit!
"That's it kid, you're grounded," Sam muttered as she allowed herself a bit of dry humor.
Kid.
Her kid.
She was going to be a mom. Sam's mind reeled as she walked up the steps to the briefing room.
The sight that greeted her made her heart sink. Sitting at the table along with Daniel, Jonas and the General was all of SG-3.
*
"I swear her I.Q. dropped by 50 points the second she changed her name."
"Oh, here we go. I am *so* happy to hear you bring this up for the fiftieth time!"
Their cell was cold, damp and smelled as if its previous inhabitants had expired but never left. It had been three hours since they had been captured and the situation was quickly working on the in-laws' tempers.
"I just think that she had a reputation that she turned her back on!"
"Jacob?!"
"Sam was well known in the scientific community! Name recognition! She essentially had to go back and reestablish herself! She…"
"Nuh uh!"
"…probably would have gotten the Nobel Prize for physics by now…"
"Enough! You're just jealous! You're pissed off because now every time our little super genius introduces herself, or writes a paper, or gets mentioned to the President, she's O'Neill instead of Carter!"
Jacob sulked. "I still can't believe she let you talk her into it!"
"Hey!" Jack pointed his finger at Jacob. "I never told her she had to change her name!" It was true. Jack had been pretty much shocked when she said she wanted to be Sam O'Neill. Not Carter, not Carter-O'Neill or O'Neill-Carter or however the hell that went, just O'Neill.
Jacob snorted.
"Like I could ever tell Carter to do anything she didn't want to do!"
"You've been married for how long and you still call her Carter?! Nice one, Jack!"
"Agghggh! I thought you wanted people to call her Carter! Besides, I'll call people whatever I want to call them, DAD!"
"CEASE YOUR BICKERING!" Teal'c glared at the two men. "Or I will cease it for you!"

"...the castle's west side faces a slope approximately ten meters high with moderate tree coverage..."
Jonas had drawn up very detailed maps of the entire area and was busy answering questions. Sam smiled weakly at the group and took a seat next to Daniel.
"Ok, we'll post someone there," commented SG-3's commander, Lieutenant Colonel Adams. "General, I recommend two additional teams besides SG-3 and SG-1. I know that 5 and 8 are available and their covert ops training is only second to, well, SG-3." Smirks and nods came from the rest of his team.
'Great,' thought Sam. 'They're in cocky commando mode.' And what she had to say was decidedly un-commando-ish. She cringed internally at the women-in-the-military comments that were sure to come. If it had just been her team and the General, she would have had no problem. But the marines were there.
"Colonel O'Neill, I want you to know that I have the greatest respect for your field experience," the General said, snapping Sam out of her introspection, "but given the type of mission this is, I am giving command to Colonel Adams on this one. The chain of command in this case will have you reporting to him…"
"No Sir," Sam interrupted. All eyes were instantly on her.
"Colonel, I realize that this mission affects you personally…"
"I'm sorry Sir, that's not what I meant. I…" Sam faltered. Then, allowing her military training to kick in, she rose and stood at full attention, her back rigid and eyes fixed forward. "Sir, I regret that I will not be able to join the current mission as I have not been cleared by the Chief Medical Officer of this base, Sir."
Sam could have sworn she heard someone mutter "Oh God." It might have been Daniel.
"Colonel, I know what this means to you. I am willing to overlook the *advice* of this facility's CMO to send you on this mission."
Sam finally let her eyes go to that of General Hammond's. She could have hugged him then. The man had just made a huge personal exception for her.
"Sir, I can't. I'm pregnant."
At that moment if a cadre of Jaffa had come through the door, not one of the people in that room would have noticed.
*
Jack sighed. "So what did Selmak think of our little 'discussion'?"
Jacob smirked. "She thinks we're both a couple of hot-headed idiots. And she can't figure out how two guys like us got so high up in one of Earth's military establishments."
Jack snorted. "Funny she never comes out when I'm around."
"She's not a fool, Jack."
They fell quiet. The sound of dripping water echoed outside their cell.
"Look, Jake. You should probably be talking to Sam about this. She wasn't trying to hurt you by changing her name. She just…" Jack paused. "She said she just wanted to be part of a family…" Jack saw Jacob's shoulders slump slightly. Crap! Wrong thing to say. Idiot! "Jacob, Sam loves you. She tells me a lot how happy she is that you guys have reconciled and how proud she is of you. She just wanted…she just wanted…aw hell," Jack sighed as his looked up at the ceiling, "she explained it so well."
Jacob nodded. "She always does."
*
Daniel was the first to physically react by jumping up and gently pushing Sam back into her seat. However, a single word had yet to be uttered since her bombshell of an announcement. Sam refused to look at any of SG-3, already picturing their amused grins and nudges.
Daniel started to speak, but Colonel Adams beat him to the punch. "Colonel O'Neill," Adams began, "I want to assure you that we will be successful in our mission. SG-3 will not let you down." The rest of his team nodding their heads resolutely to his words.
Sam looked at Colonel Adams. His eyes conveyed sincerity and respect. "Thank you Colonel," a stunned Sam managed. No smiles? No raised eyebrows? No knowing nods to each other? 'Who are you and what have you done with SG-3?' Sam wanted to yell.
"Colonel Adams, assemble and brief 5 and 8. Prepare to ship out ASAP. SG-3, you're dismissed," General Hammond ordered.
A second after SG-3 had left Daniel pulled Sam into a huge bear hug. It was a second after that that he seemed to remember why he was hugging her and almost jumped back.
"Sorry, I didn't hurt you, did I?" Daniel asked with real concern.
Sam rolled her eyes. "Uh, no. I think hugging is okay."
"Sam, congratulations," Jonas said as he gave her a more gentle hug.
"Thanks Jonas."
"Sam…" the General tapered off. Emotions were starting to get the better of him, so he just pulled her into a warm embrace.
"Thanks Sir."
The General made a noise that sounded suspiciously like a sniffle and quickly excused himself to go over last minute details of the mission.
'Yep, a big teddy bear,' Sam thought as she watched him leave. Not that she could ever call her commanding officer and two-star general that to his face.
"Yeah, I'm going to go get suited up," Jonas said. "Sam, Colonel Adams was right. We’re gonna get them back. I won't let you down."
"I know," she said. She grabbed his hand and gave it a little squeeze before he left.
Apparently Daniel wasn't done hugging and Sam found herself in another embrace.
"God Sam, I'm so happy for you, and for Jack."
Sam's smile turned melancholy at the mention of Jack.
"We *are* going to get him back, you know. We're going to get them all back."
"I know. I just wish…I should be out there," Sam felt herself start to lose it.
"Hey, it's going to be ok," Daniel said not liking where her mood was going. He seemed to vaguely recall that an upset pregnant woman was not a good thing.
"So, how about those marines?" Daniel asked, trying to lighten things up.
It had been the right tactic. "I know. I was thinking about recommending that they go in for a full psych evaluation."
"Maybe they've been taking sensitivity training on the side." Daniel smiled at Sam and patted her hand. "I'd better go."
She smiled and nodded.
As Daniel walked away, he had a sudden thought and turned around.
"Can I be Uncle Daniel?"
They both grinned.

Epilogue
5 Months Later
SG-1 was at their usual table in the commissary. Sam sipped her coffee and smiled at her team. Her two guys. At the moment they were in the middle of a heated discussion about some long-dead culture, Daniel waiving his coffee around (which he had sweetly switched to decaf in a show of solidarity with Sam) and Jonas managing to eat and debate at the same time. She really did look forward to her maternity leave, but she would sure miss these guys. Maybe she could order them to work some of the time at her place during her leave. Certainly would bug the hell out of Jack. She smirked at the thought as she took another sip.
And then Sam experienced something completely new.
"Oh!" Her hand flew to her stomach. Damn. She had said that rather loud.
Jonas and Daniel stopped mid debate, looking at her with concern. Apparently they were not the only ones who had heard her because at that same moment the sound of chairs being pushed back could be heard. Suddenly SG-1 was surrounded by four decidedly nervous-looking marines.
"You okay Colonel?" Colonel Adams asked.
"I'm fine Colonel, really," Sam said somewhat sheepishly. "I think the baby just kicked."
The men nodded with relief and returned to their table, also somewhat sheepishly.
Daniel watched them walk away. "Weird."
"You could say that again," Jonas added, shaking his head.
Sam leaned towards her team. "Guys? I think I've been adopted…as like a mascot or something," she said in a low voice. "There hasn't been a day that has gone by when someone on SG-3 hasn't come to look in on me, at least when they're on the base that is."
"Um, huh?" Jonas asked.
"They usually make up some lame excuse to see me, and it usually involves an extra piece of cake or extra glass of milk that they just 'happen' to be carrying with them."
"Wow," Daniel muttered, contemplating the mystery that was SG-3.
"Hey, kids! Sam, that better be decaf!" Jack bellowed as he entered the commissary. She rolled her eyes and nodded as he grabbed a seat. "What?" he demanded upon seeing the two men grin at him.
"The baby just kicked," Sam responded, also grinning.
A kid in a candy store couldn't have been more excited. He put his hand on her stomach. "Ok, kick. Come on. Do it for daddy. Kick..."
"Oh Jack, that isn't even the most exciting news," Daniel smirked.
"What?"
"It seems your wife has been made an honorary marine."
Jack's eyes narrowed as he looked at Sam. "I don't even want to know."
