Oooooooo. No! I spend too much money on DVDs! *slaps self*

Speaking of DVDs, I've seen lots of people mention it, but does anyone know exactly *why* Farscape DVDs are so insanely expensive? $90 for a set is way too much for my mind to justify. ([livejournal.com profile] samkicksass, I've got the Peacekeeper Wars tape, I just keep forgetting to take it with me when I walk out the door in the morning. WAH! Feel free to thwack me daily until I get it done.)

Speaking of daily, has anyone read Jon Stewart's book? Is it any good? I luuurve Jon Stewart.

Speaking of luuurve, I'm using my "Pie!!" icon just for [livejournal.com profile] nandamai. Peach apple with a crumb top.

Same reason the Trek ones are? They know you guys will cough it up regardless? ;)

That, and the puppets have a great union and are therefore really expensive to hire. They need to recoop the costs somewhere.

ffffft! Those hosers! (Had no idea Trek fans were being gouged as well.)

Yeah, I think I'd want to be in a union too if someone had their hand stuck up my ass all day.

Star Trek, Farscape, and X-Files. Because, dontcha know that all sci-fi freaks are supposed to be computer guru bazillionaires? Hmph.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Good grief! That's nuts. Greedy bastards.

Because here almost all boxset of series are around 100 euro? Finally some stores are starting to go against it though and I have been able to get Voyager for 65 euro. There even is a 45 euro S7 of SG available, it seems to be lacking any extra's though so I'm not sure if I'm gonna buy it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Now SG DVDs are pretty decent over here. We can get them for about $40. But I think it does have all the extras it's supposed to.

I don't get why they have to gouge certain parts of the world. DVD are just not that expensive to mass produce.

[identity profile] tv-elf.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Get the Jon Stewart book. It's fantabulous.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo, thanks!

[identity profile] elly427.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Because I like to judge : What the heck is Jackie doing on that dvd cover? Seriously, everyone else, smiley, happy, facing the camera and she's sort of tucked away behind Fez and making a stupid face.

/judging.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh weird! I have *no* idea what she's supposed to be doing.

You clearly need pie. Go get pie.

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's $5.99 pie month at Marie Callendar's. I'll be happy to go and get you a pie. What flavor would you like?

Apple/peach!

(Am far too in love with my new wienerdog icon.)

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I know they have apple but I don't believe they have apple/peach. I shall look for you. We *do* have french apple at home, currently, if that helps.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The apple peach was from here. (http://www.julianpie.com) So. Damn. Good.

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The apple/peach crumb sounds yummy. Doesn't look like they're around me, which is probably good.

Also, can't you just rent the Farscape DVDs?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but then I would not OWN. Own. Yes. Must consume.

$90 for a set is way too much for my mind to justify

Also, counter productive. If I didn't have to spend $90 on one season, I might spend $150 on three seasons... Hmm. That sound really odd, but it's the truth. With my Barnes & Noble Reader's advantage card, I spend way more than I would of, because I convince myself I'm saving money!

has anyone read Jon Stewart's book? Is it any good?

Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!

It's flippin' hilarious. fmilfs! (Yes that is Founding Mothers I'd Like To... ahem.)

Beside where else are you gonna get naked Supreme Court Justices? (Nowhere, please god! I'm already paying my therapist enough!)

Plus the Nixon quote at the beginning of chapter 3 is really profound. (Which really only makes sense if you've read and/or have the book.) Heee.

Yup. It's all about the perception that you're at least getting your money's worth.

Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!

Will look for it.

I've heard that the reason they are so expensive is that they are produced by ADV which is not a large MGM/Fox/Paramount type corporation. They mostly put out anime films I think. So they don't have the resources to price them as low as the other shows are.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Nuts. Yeah, I guess when I think of DVD, I'm thinking about the copying and the packaging. I tend to forget that you actually need to compile and provide content.

Still. Nuts.

[identity profile] samkicksass.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
If there's any way you could remember to mail it on Wednesday then it would get here by Saturday and I could watch this weekend. And, I will have received the last 2 eps through Netflix.

Thank so much for doing this!!!

[points at your icon]

Pie!

(Really. I reached out and touched it and said "Pie!" - in that special voice - multiple times.)

Wheee!

[identity profile] cheapevilgirl.livejournal.com 2004-10-28 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
As someone that has bought them in little sets of five per season. $90 sounds really good to me. As for why it's so much Creation is money hunger. Although there is no other show (just typed ship) that much money for.
