Oh, that's RIGHT. I'm supposed to do Christmas baking with a friend today. Need coffee...and probably pancakes...eggs? NOW. *groans*

ETA: Thought I'd share a nut bar recipe that's become a tradition with us (we bake together one Saturday every year.) It's sooooo good. If you're a nut person, that is. It's sweet, salty, caramel-y...

Nut Bars

3 cups flour
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
1 teaspoons salt
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups mixed nuts (salted variety)
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 tablespoons margarine or butter
1 tablespoons water
6 oz. package (1 cup) butterscotch chips

Heat oven to 350 F degrees. In bowl combine flour, brown sugar, salt and butter; blend well.

Press into greased 15xl0 inch pan (aka jelly roll pan.)

Bake at 350 F for 10 to 12 minutes. Sprinkle nuts over partially-baked crust. In small saucepan, combine com syrup, butter, water and butterscotch chips; boil 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour cooked mixture over nuts. Return to oven and bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool completely; cut into bars.

ETA2: Random still-waking-up thought. There isn't "corn syrup" in the UK, is there? Well, it doesn't taste like corn!

*has flashbacks to forcing [livejournal.com profile] josephides to eat a corndog* Hmm. Did we get her to eat cornbread as well? I can't remember. Boy, lots of stuff over here is corn-related, isn't it?
