Yes, well. Have now seen the most recent season of Doctor Who. All day marathon. MRRRFFFFFF. *twitches*

When does the next season start? And don't say December! *weeps*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

ETA: I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not having seen a single Doctor Who episode before this season. Anything I really need to know?

ETA2: For anyone who hasn't seen it, I'd totally recommend it. It's a show where even if I encountered a plot hole, I'd be like, "Shut the hell up, brain! This is cool!" And my brain would listen and all would be well. I ain't joining *any* discussion groups on this one. I don't want to harsh the buzz.

Er, as far as I know there's nothing you've missed. I mean, you know Daleks can go up stairs and stuff. And... that's kinda it.

[identity profile] boro-girl.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there was the fact that they weren't able to before. With the exception of one episode (or story, I forget), Daleks couldn't climb stairs. That's why you were always safe going to bed at night.

Now they can.

It's scary again.

well, true.... But then, only the Mara ever scared me... And I was six at the time.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwww.

(I would have been so scared of the dalek as a kid!)

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, even from the early William Hartnell episodes, it was actually implied that they must have been able to climb stairs - we just never saw them do it.

It wasn't until the Sylvester McCoy episode that it happened "on screen".

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
HA!! That's my kind of backstory!

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Recent Dalek backstory, just so you know where they come from. That's not including what happened with Daleks for the 3 incarnations of the doctor before Tom Baker.

And you definitely should check out Outpost Galifrey for any and all information you ever needed on Doctor Who.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That's to Doctor Who what Gateworld is to SG! Thanks!

I have a question and it would probably take me years to read through everything to find the answer, why does the Doctor hang around Earth all the time? Are the Time Lords from Earth in the future?

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
There actually isn't any specific reason that I can remember, save that he seems to have a particular fondness for Humans. In fact, I remember him being "teased", if that's the appropriate word for it, on a couple of occasions by other Time Lords.

And no, Time Lords are not from Earth. They have a very different physiology - two hearts for one.

The Doctor has always been something of a renegade Time Lord - both in the fact that he chooses to "meddle" in time, as well as who he "hangs out" with. On occasion he has been tasked by the Time Lords to perform specific missions and the like, which has allowed him to keep his "freedom" from some of their otherr laws. Supposedly he's even the heriditary President of Gallifrey, which came out during the time of the fourth Doctor - though he abdicated the position as he didn't want to give up travelling.

The other Time Lords don't really understand it, but that's really the bottom line. He just likes Humans. I think I remember something about it being because they were emotional and giving, and you also have to remember it comes from a perspective of someone who is over 900 years old - they tend to take the longer view of things.

Awwww, he just likes humans! :)

There's going to be a special at Christmas, but the next season won't actually start until next year.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Just a special? And nothing until next year?

But...but...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, UK series film everything to completion, and then seem to wait 9 months before showing them!

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, even though they wrapped filming on the fourth season of Spooks a few months back, it won't actually air until November!

*sniffs and pats*

[identity profile] cheekygal.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins* Wasn't it wonderful? Oh, how I adore the ever-so-manic Doctor.

I loved the special effects, too -- everything was so well done, and then there'd be the Tardis spinning away like a top toward the Dalek missles. Sort of a visual irony going on there. ;)

Did I mention I adore the Doctor? ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I was so impressed with the show! I don't know what I was expecting - maybe some kind of cheesy 60s sci-fi, but this was fantastic! The humor, and yes, the irony, the concepts and the storytelling - just great! And I just love the character of the Doctor. It'll take a bit of getting used to with the new guy - hope he's good.

I just love really good sci fi!

[identity profile] pixiesio.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you are addicted liked it! <g> I avoid groups too, they do tend to lower the tone. ;) But yes, unfortunately we have to wait until some time around xmas before anything new. I was so bad last night that I watched the 1996 FOX movie, then rewatched the third ep a couple of times in the various timezones. Hee!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Erg. I'm going through withdrawls. I may need to watch the whole series every once in a while to hold me over until next year.

[identity profile] pixiesio.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* Yeah. Somehow my taped copy of "Rose" got goofed, might have to d/l it from somewhere, or else wait until the season comes out on DVD. Prolly end up d/l it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I wonder if it will ever be released on Region 1. Sure I could play Region 2 on my computer, but it'd be great to watch it on TV. And Rose...aww. *pets series*

[identity profile] pixiesio.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It may be, since it showed here in Canada. I can always write a nice little letter to the CBC promo people and beg 'em to release it. *crosses fingers*

[identity profile] inspire.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No one can avoid teh 'who.

There's a new episode in December but the second series doesn't actually start til next February. My heart weeps.

Nor should they.

There's a new episode in December but the second series doesn't actually start til next February. My heart weeps.

Sad now. I think I'll curl up in my sock drawer and sleep for days.

I have been taking it slower, and have three eps to go.

Did I mention I'm betaing Doctor/Jack/Rose OT3 fic? And that it's really smutty?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have the willpower that you do.

For some reason I don't feel the pull to read or write (thank god because me trying to write Brit-speak? *shudder*) fic. But I did go over to ff.net to see what kind of fics people are writing. Holy crap! Their summaries are spelled correctly! And they use grammar!
havocthecat: the lady of shalott (Default)

[personal profile] havocthecat 2005-07-05 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait... They used grammar correctly on ff.net? They spelled things right?

Isn't that against ff.net's TOS? Seriously, I'd be worried about getting my account canceled if I didn't have at least one typo in a story up there.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
And it went on like that for *pages*. It was scary! I switched over to SG-1 and the first one that popped up was written in netspeak. *weeps* Why does SG-1 bring out the DUM?
