Good God. Our society is getting more and more like the See, Hear, Speak No Evil monkeys.

News Story

You know, if you freak out by simply *seeing* someone else's worldview on a frickin' coffee cup, be it someone talking about evolution, buddhism, christianity, homosexuality or helixophily, that's one pretty small world you got going there.

I'm of the mind that I'm completely tolerant of any belief people have... no matter how crazy asnd insane it sounds. That's why I don't say anything to my friends who believe in the the creation myth.

They don't attack mine and I won't attack theirs because until all the evidence is in, we really won't know the whole truth.

Right. And we're all trying to co-exist in a pluralist society.

I'll get those commies! They won't overrun my America!

You think they'll become collector items? *hopes*

*pictures moldy old coffee cups*

I'm sure they will. *nods*

Yay! *signs up for an Ebay account*

Sorry, but critical analysis of Nietzsche's view of religion is rotting my brain so at this point all I can say is, "Tree pretty, fire bad."

Seriously! Some of my friends have some crazy beliefs in my opinion, and I'm sure some of mine are odd to them. But seriously who cares? Half the fun about different beliefs is talking about them, comparing them, learning about them. Not cutting someone down because of them. This is just like the debate over the pledge of allegiance in public schools. *Sigh* people need to learn to have an open mind.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, people are seriously lacking open mindedness these days. "Open minded" doesn't mean you have to abandon your beliefs, just be willing to debate and keep the possibility open that you may wrong, or at the very least, willing to see that there is more than one side to it. I actually like seeing different points of view - I find it interesting.

Word.

I just noticed the "John 3:16" stamped on the bottom of Forever 21 bags when I bought a skirt there last week. :-)

Well, I haven't bought anything there in probably a couple of years.

Actually, I must have skimmed over that part of the article - didn't realize that was on there myself. :D

*agrees with you* I presume the best way to live, then, is to never state or stand up for what you believe? *eyeroll*

People get so petty. No one gets hurt by so many of these things - it's just people looking for ways to get attention and bother other people by pretending they're damaged. Some people like being the victim. It takes less work to get attention than actually doing something worthwhile.

The politically correct movement had some legit gripes in the beginning, but people are going beyond oversensitive nowadays.

It's weird. I'm starting to see attitudes that unless a person's belief does not offend every single last person on the planet, one can't speak it out loud. Yeah, weird.

Heh heh. Yeah. People are so hyper-sensitive about exposing themselves to another viewpoint, it's quite often crippling.

Helixophily...sounds painful. ;)

But OMG, word to that. I remember the fuss when my oh-so-silly school decided to pull those Starbucks cups...thank goodness there were people (both professors and students) who agreed that having done so was abso-frickin-lutely ridiculous. *pokes them all*
