The Ambassadors of Death (Three, Liz)
  • Even before watching a second of this, I was thinking about how every title should really have "of Death" with it to give it a bit more jazz. Lord of the Rings of Death. Pirates of the Caribbean of Death. Batman Returns of Death. Okay, the last doesn't work so well, but you get the idea. And then I watched the credits of this episode where it's

    The Ambassadors
    *pause*
    OF DEATH
*gunshot noise* *or maybe a metallic whip noise* *not sure*

    Mwah. Awesome.

  • So the Doctor can make things disappear and reappear? I guess I have seen him make a banana appear. This giant reel tape probably went into his pocket with everything else, like...his Pocket Kitty Companion!

  • This concept sorta got recycled in a Four episode – ambassadors were sent to a planet where they ran into the wrong people who used them instead of forming a treaty. The incensed planet was then ready to launch an attack until the Doctor intervened. Only in this Three episode, the Doctor didn't get to suck on a blob.

  • So far I've pretty much liked the Three-era episodes I've seen, but this one got a bit dull and draggy. Seven parts? Way too long. There's a mystery in the plot – what happened to the astronauts and what are the things that came back in their place - but you don't start really getting into things until the very end of part 5. Overall, a "meh" episode. Kinda sad since this was the last Liz episode I had to see. I usually leave Word open while I watch episodes so I can jot stuff down as I watch, but there just wasn't a whole lot that was noteworthy in this one.
