Mwah. I've metaed so much on this Human Nature/Family of Blood episode, that I was *bound* to get something right, wasn't I? :D I haven't actually seen it yet, but have read a detailed review.

Back from a Crazy Filter post in April:

But imagine if all these things - all these issues - were stripped away. He could love someone without the tiniest inkling of these things. A completely unfettered love. Nothing to hold him back from expressing those feelings... It would be utterly liberating for him.

Man, it sounded like this episode really rocked him in this way. He had just *so* many issues to hold him back when he was with Rose. Of course, I still think he completely loved Rose - he just kept holding back. Rose was the one that always pushed the relationship forward, with him freaking out at first but then happy to be there after he'd calmed down.

But this experience with John will hopefully let the Doctor see that he's *allowed* to be in love. And now I get the whole RTD thing about the Doctor saying "I love you" to Rose in Doomsday being limiting. I just hope he'll get to one day finish that sentence to her.

ETA: And now that I've seen it, But this experience with John will hopefully let the Doctor see that he's *allowed* to be in love. And I'd want to add to it that not only allowed to be in love, but realizing that that kind of thing is what makes up being more than just a story about a romantic lost prince in a magic box. It's what makes him real.
