At the end, Harriet Jones (Prime Minister) talks about a space ship that crashed 10 years ago. They're not referring to the Slitheen thing, are they? Because that happened only like a year ago, if that. I mean, Jackie and Mickey certainly weren't 10 years older. And speaking of which, how can you have a "Golden Age" under someone who's only been in power for a year? I mean, I suppose you could. But the way they were talking in World War Three, it sounded like Harriet Jones (Prime Minister) had been PM for a long period of time, bringing in the "Golden Age." But the good Doctor has now cut short her reign.
Time can be changed, so I can buy that back then she was meant to go on, but made a bad decision. But they *called* it the Golden Age in the Christmas Invasion. What made it Golden? Don't you need more than a year to have an "Age?" And why am I so obsessed with this? :D
ETA: Hi, I'm Michelle. I have a mad love for Doctor Who. (Is it March yet?)

Then again, there have been lots of alien ships crashing on earth in Doctor Who, so who's to say that there wasn't one in the mid 90s?
And we may hear more about it when the show Torchwood spins off from Doctor Who later in 2006 (note that Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who). It will have the guy who was Captain Jack in it as the lead male. Should be interesting.

Yeah, I'm hoping that that was the case - that she was referring to a crash we haven't seen.

Ha! I didn't catch the anagram before!

I'm going to check it out. But I really wish Captain Jack was back on DW.

Well there were 26 seasons of episodes with all sorts of things happening on earth, so I'm sure one of them had a crash in the late 90s. ;-)
I really wish Captain Jack was back on DW.
I guess Torchwood is the reason why he's not. Maybe he just wanted his own show? Maybe the writers didn't like the competition for Rose. ;)

I'm sure. :D

Yeah, who knows.

It's unusual for a companion to be around for such a short time though. Most stuck around for a season at least - although I have to admit that most started part way through a season and ended part way through. They seemed to like to have a bit of continuity from one season to the next. No idea why though. I guess it just worked out that way.
Speaking of companions, one of the best loved companions from the original show is coming back for an episode in season 2. Sarah Jane Smith (played by Elisabeth Sladen) will feature in episode four or five I think. Can't wait to see her again!

The Brits can do hubris just as well as the Americans. ;)

Didn't five years pass in the first season?
Rose returns to Earth thinking it was only 5 months, but it was actually years, right?
In any regard, I didn't think that the alien ship that allegedly crashed 10 years ago was a reference to last season...

Wow, did it?
Rose returns to Earth thinking it was only 5 months, but it was actually years, right?
I thought it was just a year... *hauls out ep* Oh yeah. At first they thought they had just been gone 12 hours but it turned out to be 12 months.

In watching it again, I think you're right. I'm still a little funny about the whole "Golden Age" thing though.
