They call me Turbo Drunk Girl

I saw Star Wars Ep III last night and while I thought it could have used some editing down, it was still worth seeing. (And the pacing! I miss the pacing movies in general had a couple of decades ago - where it was okay to show a scene with not a lot going on, which set the tone, instead of 24/7 sfx and 'splosions.) And now I keep musing about the original three movies. (I popped in the DVDs last night after I got home, but by the time Luke started whining, I was out.)

  • The little speech Anakin gave Padmé about ruling the galaxy together reminded me so much of when he told Luke they could rule the galaxy together. Of course, when I first saw Empire Strikes Back, it just sounded like Big Evil Dude mwahahaing. But now with the backstory, it takes on a whole different meaning. Anakin/Vader has all the power, but even after all those years he's still trying to grab onto what got him to the dark side in the first place. He never was able to let it go. It's so tragic.

  • I'm sure many people have pointed this out, probably when Episode I came out, but it just struck me last night. Whenever C3PO says "thank the maker" in the original 3, he's thanking...Darth Vader! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (Yes, *extremely* late to the party.)

  • Okay, so Anakin really *was* the Chosen One. Last night I was thinking that the whole Chosen One thing was actually referring to Luke since Luke saved the day at the end of Return of the Jedi, right? Well...I guess it's been a few years since I watched those movies since it actually was Anakin/Vader who killed the Emperor and brought balance to the Force. Luke would have been toast without him there. So they were right all along about Anakin. He just took the long way around to fulfill his destiny.

  • In watching the original three today, there seemed to be a whole lot more depth that wasn't there before. Scenes that seemed offhand now felt more poignant, whether designed by Lucas or imagined by me. Like Vader discussing Luke with the Emperor for the first time, talking about how he was just a boy. It *now* felt like Vader was trying to deflect the Empror away from Luke. And when the Emperor told Vader that he believed Luke to be Anakin's son and Vader's "surprised" reaction - come on, Vader already knew. He had been trying to find "young Skywalker" for a while already. He had to have figured it out between New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Wheee! Brand new subtext!

  • The more I think about it, the more I'm realizing that the biggest thing I liked about Episode III was what it brought to the original three movies.

In other news, I bought the 1st season of Scrubs the other day. *slobbers on show* I think right now the only two comedies on TV I actually like are Scrubs and Arrested Development.

I have a...mild fixation on the movie. But I think my 'problem' is that I overlook the, most likely, huge, neon colored, flaws and just look at what the root of the story was. Which was just exactly how tragic it made everything. I always assumed that Vader was just an evil bastard, and even from episode II I always thought that he would just get completely power hungry and resent Obi-Wan, and THAT would be why he went to the dark side. And yes, he does get lured and drawn in by the power, but the reason at first is because he so dearly loves Padme and the baby, at least to me that's the reason in the very beginning.

Like I said, mild fixation.

I just wanted to say that of all the hundreds (thousands?) of D&C icons out there, I think that is the prettiest one I've ever seen.

*stares*

Yup, I totally agree. I just finished watching the originals again and wow - Episode III really added a lot of depth that hadn't been there before. So cool!!

I really loved the pacing too, but didn't know it was called that! I thought it was great that Lucas puts in scenes which may only be about 20 seconds long, but they move the plot on and it's vital. Fab.

Sometimes it's hard to believe that the first three and the second three were written by the same guy. They're so different in style. Ah well.

Watching the OT after watching RotS brings a person to a whole new level of perceptiveness. I've only watched the originals once since EpIII came out, but it was like I was seeing them for the very first time. More things made sense, and I thought about all of the connections that simply weren't there before.

I watched those movies since it actually was Anakin/Vader who killed the Emperor and brought balance to the Force. Luke would have been toast without him there. So they were right all along about Anakin. He just took the long way around to fulfill his destiny.

20+ years, hehe. It was Anakin's destiny to bring balance to the Force, while it is his children's destiny to revive the Jedi Order.

Yup! I simply adored III for providing all that backstory. And you're completely right - it was like watching the originals for the first time after seeing III. You look at the movies in a *completely* different way!
