There aren't Doctor Who fic awards, are there? And can we keep it that way?
I've never witnessed fic awards being anything more than popularity contests where the "Best" fic (writing-wise) usually never even gets nominated.** I've always hated the "Best" label. At least change it to "Favorite" because that's what it is. Do people vote based on writing excellence? Maybe some do, but most vote on which story they simply liked the most and that's damned subjective.
Although I have heard tale of some Alias fic awards that actually worked using some sort of bizarre structure of nominations/voting. But that could just be a fevered dream. Like the Smurfs.
