A couple of fic writing memes...
Request any fic of mine and I will provide you with a commentary/annotations, like a DVD extra.
Here's a list of fics I've posted on LJ.
Post the first line from your 25 most recent fanfics and try to find a pattern.
Well, let's see. A couple of these I'd written with
goldy_dollar, so sometimes this wasn't actually my writing, but no matter. Patterns. Hmm. I think I like to either set up the scene very quickly with character perspective, or I like to start off with a "hook." Something to really make a person want to keep reading past the first line. Humor fics are great to use hooks on.
Also, I notice I've done the "waking up" start a few times. In the big fic I'm working on now, it also starts with a waking up scene. And also ends with a waking up scene (slight difference in the second to show a changing/developing relationship.) I'm not sure if it's because it's an easy start to a fic, or the fact that I'm sort of obsessed with the Doctor and Rose's sleeping habits after they're together. :D

- "Oh, speak of the devil!" Jackie's voice called out.
- He'd gone from destroying the Daleks, to given a new life in a parallel world, to thinking he was a right bastard (and not even him him, but another him) all in the space of a day.
- Rose's hand draped over the chair in the console room, her attention shifting back and forth between the latest edition of Nebulous -- a sort of magazine from the 87th Century she was addicted to -- and the Doctor, who really shouldn't have been at that angle under the console if he hadn't wanted her to look.
- Rose felt movement, rousing her out of sleep, but didn't open her eyes.
- The Doctor paced in the small room of the old church.
- Blummph.
- "So what exactly do you find when you look up people's asses?"
- Rose snored softly against his shoulder.
- The Doctor slowly woke up, realizing one thing: he was wet.
- "Doctor, what color are my eyes?"
- Rose slid a dark pair of sunglasses on her nose and opened a newspaper in front of her face.
- "Hug!" The giant orange blob rippled with its command.
- "Oh my God!" Jackie jumped up from her chair beside the bed, but the Doctor barely gave her a glance.
- Rose didn't know whether to be hurt or amused that the Doctor hadn't discovered her right away.
- He loved that he had her eyes.
- "Why are we stopping?" Rose put her feet down as the Doctor did the same.
- Rose blinked awake to her unfamiliar surroundings.
- It started out as a perfect spring day.
- "What do you see?" the Doctor called out.
- The first time, he had no clue.
- "I love you," he said.
- "Let me just set the coordinates for..." The Doctor heard a cough and then felt a hand on his ass.
- "Martha!"
- The first three hours had consisted of yelling, hitting the forceshield (ow, by the way), pacing, examining the plastic on her shoe, pacing again, fiddling with the sink in the corner, and finally trying to scratch "Laraiths SUCK" on the wall with her thumbnail.
- *BANG*
