Dude.

Um. Wow.

So apparently if I label something "True Story" without any context, reference, dates, or original person to verify with, it'll be taken as fact. Good to know. And if I feed into people's natural hatred of anything religious or people who are religious, it'll *really* take off.

True Story. A Catholic nun once said to her high school class that she hated Lord of the Rings and hobbits will go to hell. Especially Merry. Or was it Pippin? Damn, still can't tell them apart.

I think it's more of a moral of the story kinda thing ;) What's your moral? I'm leaning towards hobbits make good marshmallows and you should toast them...

But all I'm seeing is a perpetuated stereotype - that all Christians are ignorant, hate-mongering homophobes.

I think that Pippin would actually have a better time of it in hell then Merry because of his natural sluttiness. Crap. I may have mixed them up again.

that all Christians are ignorant, hate-mongering homophobes.

Well as far as I'm concerned, I know that isn't true. Yes I've met a great deal of Christians who ARE homophobes, on the converse I am friends with a great many who are not at all like that. Dude I have 2 friends who classify themselves as gay christians.

I posted the thing as a talking point - focusing more on the moral of the last line than anything else that all people regardless of race religion sexual orientation etc deserve to be happy... and got some interesting responses... from religious and not religious people. Has definitely given me some interesting things to think about.

Though I should know better than to post anything that might spark debate in case people get their feathers out of joint. If anything *I* have personally posted has offended, I apologise but I was careful to include the words "some" in my comments and post, as I don't believe that you can classify ANY individual by their race, religion, sexual orientation etc etc...

Nonono. I'm not afraid of debate - I think this is something that *should* be discussed and would never be offended by it. And I know that there are a lot of so-called religious people who *will* use their religion as an excuse to demean or even harm other people. There is a serious issue out there that shouldn't be ignored.

But what drives me bats is when you get these so-called "true stories" that probably belong on Snopes, which only serve to justify someone's belief about another group of people.

*nods* I can see what you mean- someone could post it and damn all Christians/Catholics/Smurfs I guess... didn't think of that. :)

(Snopes?)

I think my favorite quote would have to be:

In conclusion: If Santa ever DID deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he's dead now.

Snopes is the site I wish all my real life friends list would peruse before sending me the OMG READ THIS NOW AND FORWARD TO EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE emails.

Heh heh. I've done that to my friends. They send me one of those lame emails, I send them a link to Snopes, usually linking to the story about the email they just sent me. I have no tact. :D
