A HOLE. IN A COW.

[identity profile] katie-m.livejournal.com 2005-08-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait. The cow is alive? And they stick their hands in her?

OMG.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-08-09 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. LIVE COW.

[identity profile] sjshipper.livejournal.com 2005-08-09 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that was my question too. yikes. And at Cornell, no less. I thought things like this only took place at formerly A&M, land grant universities like my alma mater.

It's FREAKY. *SHUDDERS*

And mutilating this cow in the name of science so students learn....what? Perhaps the vet could put a fistula in his own stomach so the students could compare. Oh...no, that would be inhumane to ask someone to do that!

And mutilating this cow in the name of science so students learn....what?

My hometown is about an hour from there. Good times.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-08-09 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Which means...YOU'RE AN HOUR AWAY FROM THE HOLE.

*FLAILS*

[identity profile] tarzanic.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well, my hometown is. I, on the other hand, am in Australia on the other side of the world. Mwhahaha. ;D

A hole in a live cow? Why does that suprise me, anyway. Medical research is rarely ethical when it comes to using animals.

[identity profile] corenn.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
We have an annual Veterinary Medicine open-house here at the University of Illinois. Which means the public gets to see, touch, and violate a holey cow.

EVERY YEAR.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been told that the cow is fine with it. BUT HOW COULD A COW BE FINE WITH A HOLE? ACK!!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG.

[identity profile] katie-m.livejournal.com 2005-08-13 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, Cornell is New York's land grant university, and they've got a big vet school there. But still! Holey Cow! That ain't right.
