Has anyone not seen Torchwood CoE yet? I'm always so bad at figuring out Generally Accepted Fandom when it comes to how long after something airs that you have to put it behind a cut.
I'm waffling on buying the DVDs. On the one hand it's a damn fine mini-series. One of the best things I've seen in a good long while. But on the other hand, it's probably not something I can watch again soon. The second I start thinking "I should watch CoE again!", the next second I'm remembering just how much of an emotional kick in the ass the whole thing is. I'm still impressed by how genuinely disturbing it was. Not cliched, blood-and-guts kind of disturbing. This kind of disturbing starts in the back corner of your mind and keeps growing.
Didn't I see that Torchwood had been renewed for S4? Or was that just speculation? Didn't RTD say that Jack would have to be involved, since Jack really is Torchwood? (Hmmm. I wonder if he meant that to be as messed up as one can read into it.)
You know, thinking about it, I sort of hope Gwen will give up Torchwood. I do like her character, but now that they're giving her a baby, seems like Torchwood would be a very bad idea. Yes, there are parents who are cops, but we all know that working for Torchwood isn't the same. Torchwood means an almost 100% certain early death.
It reminds me of Spooks with Adam and Fiona. Their young child had to go through the death of both of his parents, one after the other. Yeah, they were fighting for the greater good, but could it have been someone else doing the fighting? Adam and Fiona were replaced at MI-5 but couldn't be replaced for their son. I'm sure someone else could fill Gwen's place.
