They knew I was waffling! :D

Kindle will support library lending later this year.

Huzzah! After over-analyzing the ebook options, I decided that a Kindle was what I really wanted. BUT the library thing held me up. I just couldn't bring myself to buy it knowing that I couldn't get books from the library on it. BUT NOW I MUST HAVE ONE.

I saw this this morning and thought of you. I wish there was a list of which libraries this is going to be in, but it's a start regardless.

It would be nice to know too. But that's one advantage of being in San Diego - I'm pretty sure we'll get it here. :)

LOL. When I read this, I immediately thought of you as well.

I am currently look up accessories for my Kindle. I'll get the actual Kindle eventually.

XD

Oooooh! Accessories! Little hats for it!

Oh REALLY? This is certainly an interesting development. (Still virtually no chance that my library will be able to support ebook lending any time soon, as we've to save £1.5 mill over the next 3 years, but it's very encouraging for other library authorities.)

It's a start at least. Maybe someday it'll come around for you...

Welcome, Kindle are great

Oh, and as for Fan fiction if it's on FF.net I found this wonderful site that automatically converts to .mobi, http://flag.erayd.net/

There are a few others if you want to download, unfortunately no one that I found can do it for LJ.

Ooh, nice! Thanks!

PERFECT.

Now...I need my library to have better e-book options. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-04-21 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Yeah, I don't expect it'll be cream of the crop stuff at the library.

That is excellent news! We have one but I don't really use it and being able to get library books would be lovely.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-04-21 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It really would make it more useable!

My 11 year old just bought herself a Kindle (okay, we brought her money to Best Buy and we got it together), but I was very pleased to see this news. She reads voraciously, so hopefully will be able to get stuff from our local library. Though being in NH ...

You never know. 11,000 libraries is quite a lot.

[identity profile] pittsburghgirl.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i would like to know how they will do this and for how long we may borrow the books.

I'd imagine it'd be like existing rules libraries have for non-Kindle ebooks. Something like you can only "check out" one book at a time, and you can only have it for two weeks before it deletes off of your device. Stuff like that.
