I get curious about things, and wiki is an enabler.
I've gotten sucked into wiki for a while. As British-type people, are you taught everything about the monarchy when in school? Because OMG there are so many titles and orders and ceremonies and HOLY CRAP.
Poor
shinyopals. Whenever I've emailed her anything to do with the royal wedding, she's ignored me. (Or mostly. She's caved a few times.) I COULD HAVE BEEN EMAILING YOU SO MUCH MORE, YOU KNOW. Like...
Poor
Me: OOOH. Did you know that the Queen doesn't sing during God Save the Queen? Makes sense, doesn't it?
Opal: *ignores*
Me: Hmm. The Order of the Garter? Why?
Opal: *blocks emails*

Michelle, if you had a Nook, I could lend you my ebook "A History of Britain" which is completely mis-named because really it should be called "A History of England's Monarchs (And Also Scotland's, But Only When They Are Troublesome And/Or Become England's Monarchs Too)." It does actually contain some useful and interesting tidbits on this topic.

American history is only a few hundred years old but British history is a few thousand! We have to focus on specific subjects, instead, for the most part. (Which, unfortunately, tends to be things like 'Medicine through Time' or 'World War Two' or 'The Industrial Revolution' and not cool and interesting, but ultimately less useful, subjects such as 'Royal Protocol'.)
Going to wikipedia and looking up the monarchy is a dangerous thing to do, though. I went there after watching The Young Victoria to check something that happened in the movie which I was sure was dramatic embellishment (it was) and ended up reading the last 150 years of British monarchy.
I feel so guilty, though, because all of the non-British people on my f-list seem to have watched the Royal Wedding and I haven't even properly looked at her dress.

But I've been meaning to watch The Young Victoria. I really should one of these days.
And that is the nice thing about American History. Not as much stuff. :D When it came to World History though, it was basically British History and to a lesser extent European History. It wasn't until college that I could take other history classes like one in Ancient China (which was really interesting.)

I only know more than one verse of the national anthem because I'm a Girl Guide (Girl Scout).
I do have a very cool history ruler though that lists ruling monarchs of England since 1066 on a handy piece of stationary.

And neat! I think I had something like that but with Presidents at one time. Just a bit less info on it. :D
