Sterling! Yay! But other than that, my attention kept wandering during this episode. It just didn't click with me for some reason. (Maybe because I'm not into chess? Dunno.) But I did like the team moment at the end. Poor Hardison - Nate has so many scenarios where he dies. XD
No new episodes until November, although I find I can't complain when some shows take 2 years to air more stuff. *EYES*
I've not watched (nor do I plan on watching) the new DW episode. I am amused though that reactions on the flist either seem to be "BEST THING EVER" or "WHAT THE HELL?" Mwah.
River can regenerate due to being conceived in the TARDIS, and so spends her teen years as her parents' BFF. (LOLOLOLOL) She also spends it 100% obsessed with the Doctor. (Ew. This again. Why can you not see the creepy, Moffat? Like...Reneseme/wolfdude creepy.) Hitler was a non-issue. (Okay.) And Eleven might be the greatest monster in history? (I'm not quite sure about that last one. I was confused, but didn't feel the urge to figure it out.)

- I think I'm now at the point where "LOL JACK" is constantly running through my head.
- I'm sort of glad Gwen's on her way back to Cardiff - I like the UK angle.
- I felt bad for Esther at the end - she really is completely fucked. I'm not feeling good about her chances of surviving the series.
- I've now decided that Ten should go commune with jellyfish. He could relate to their ancient and forever thing they've got going. And then he could emo about never being able to live in the same environment. It's perfect!
- John deLancie is AWESOME. I wish he could have been in the whole series. He makes scenes 100% more interesting.

I LOVE IT. This is a beautiful idea.
John de Lancie is the light of my life. I adore him to pieces.
Your feelings on Who are my feelings on Who. (every time I think about River's back-story, I just laugh and laugh... and then get kinda sad for her. But then I laugh again)

They're kindred spirits!

He really brought so much more interest to this episode, IMO.

It's gotta be the most convoluted I've ever seen. Well, except maybe for Jack Harkness. :D

Let's try to see.
In this corner, we have Jack who:
a) was born in the 51st century, which gives him super pheromones
b) had his village or w/e attacked & his brother kidnapped
c) was the "Face of Boe" at some point (lol)
d) joined the Time Agency
e) lost two years mysteriously & holds a grudge against the Time Agency
f) chose the name that he currently goes by (Jack)
g) died
h) became immortal via Rose
In the other corner, we have River who:
a) had parents who were both companions of the Doctor
b) was conceived on the TARDIS and thus got regeneration
c) was kidnapped from her family
d) was raised to kill the Doctor
e) died (I think?) but regenerated
f) was raised with her parents
g) tried to kill the Doctor but fell in love with him instead
h) lost her immortality
i) chose her own name that she now goes by (River)
lol, yeah, I can't pick a winner either.
Tangent but I thought of it while thinking of River: Moffat's idea of love always seems to end up squicking me out. Why all the little girls, Moffat? Why?

I don't know who should get the prize, but they both probably should be in therapy. :D

lol, yes, so true. Why are there so few therapists in space?

ALL OF THE ABOVE. It's Who. These two concepts are not mutually exclusive. :-D
Why can you not see the creepy, Moffat?
Actually, I sort of suspect he knows damn well, but my reasoning involves more spoilers than you warned for or care about, and is not 100% certain anyway.

I don't care about spoilers.

The main thing, though, is that Mels' obsession with the Doctor is a direct result of the bad guys brainwashing her to kill him after they kidnapped her at birth. So the staggering fucked-up-ness of her formative years is pretty upfront and deliberate.
Put that together with a couple really sad comments from the more mature River we've seen previously (notably an uncomfortable and bittersweet speech to Rory about how the Doctor knew everything about her when she first met him, and "imagine the effect of that on a young girl"), and the picture that's been emerging for a while is that River's whole life has been centered on the Doctor due to outside forces that never gave her a choice, that mature!River is all too aware of that (and the Doctor is just starting to get a clue), and that she's chosen to embrace the only foundation she has and launch a brilliant life from it.
So yeah, I think Moffat knows damn well how creepy it is. Especially as they've been doing a LOT of confronting the Doctor with the unintended side effects of his actions. It's looking more and more to me like River is deliberately constructed as the ultimate victim of that proximity effect.

On the upside, however, Amy and Rory are MADE OF RAINBOWS AND SUNSHINE IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY.

BWAH! XD

I liked DW last season, but this year I feel like I'm not having as much fun with the series as I used to. I think I enjoyed it way more when it was all about saving the world rather than going on and on about the Doctor's impending death
which I'm finding it hard to be concerned about since they are bound to epically cop out. IDK, I just keep wishing they'd wrap up that storyline and move onto something else already? Also, the Eleven/River scene with the guns was something that stepped out of a Sherlock episode. Did Moffat accidentally get his post-production teams confused? :Dno subject
And I was already fairly meh about S5, although I was looking forward to a new dynamic with Rory along full time. But as S6 went along, I cared about it less and less. I can't even remember which episode I left off at.
