  • LOL Could giving presents to the servants be any more awkward? XD

  • I'm glad Daisy found peace with the whole William thing.

  • Matthew and Mary - definitely for the best. Matthew needed to stop digging a hole of misery (and pulling Mary down with him - DUDE. THAT WAS YOUR HANGUP, NOT MARY'S. DOUCHE.), and Mary needed to get away from what's-his-name.

  • Poor Anna. I was half expecting them to have her suddenly be pregnant in order to increase her TRAGIC SITUATION. But I don't doubt that Bates will eventually be freed.

  • Speaking of pregnant... Sibyl. *sighs* It's probably to be expected but it's really a shame that this character who wanted to see the world is now pretty much doing the opposite of that just to get away from her family. And I'm sure even though we didn't see him, Branson undoubtedly did something completely douchey over Christmas. Like get Sibyl a new mop. I'm more than fine with characters who want to settle down and do the white picket fence thing -- a family and kids is not a horrible thing -- but not for a character whose goals in life were not that. Ugh.

  • I wonder if Spiritualism will continue to crop up. I know it was a big thing around that time, and it'd be amusing to see mediums and so on.

  • When will there be new episodes? :D

Was spiritualism big in the 20's? I always thought of it as more a Victorian thing. I still lol'd at how terribly gullible Daisy still is, even while she's getting smarter and stronger in other ways.

I think we'll get more Downton next fall?

I think it lasted through the 20s. I think it was in the 20s that Houdini went on his quest to debunk Spiritualists.

Poor Daisy. It's no wonder no one takes her seriously.

HMPH. TOO LONG.

It was so wonderful. THANK GOD Matthew and Mary are actually together - bring on her trying to live with Isobel. Mwahaha.

I'm also disappointed about Sybil. *sigh* I'd been hoping Branson would just be killed in the War of Independence (not shooting pheasant) or maybe even the Civil War. But even if he is now, she'll have a kid. Such a waste of so much awesome potential.

New episodes probably September again. I'm actually okay with that because the ending was happy and not a cliffhanger. And also because I don't entirely trust Fellowes not to throw another obstacle at Mary and Matthew, but at least if he does it won't be for a long time, hee.

HA! She'll have to become a master at it, suggesting people who need her help in far off lands. :D

Maybe...he'll still die, the grandkid will stay at the estate for a bit and Sybil will finally go out and see a bit of the world.

On the one hand it's nice that the Mary/Matthew thing is finally resolved, but on the other you're right - it probably won't be the end of it. :D

lol @ Branson's ~tragic death~ being the only way for Sybil to see the world. The only alternative is probably him babysitting the kid at Downton while she's off being magnificent somewhere far away, but I'm not sure he'd be all too comfortable with that. :>

Death it is! :D

I have had a weird relationship with Sybil. I had rather high expectations for her when I first started to watch the show since she won her show for Fandom March Madness, but then she was barely in series 1 and felt a bit like the show was trying too hard to make us like her. She was modern! She wanted women to vote! She has progressive ideas and wanted to be politically active! She was spunky and wore trousers! She helped Gwen get a job! And as a result, she felt a bit flat as a character.

But I still felt like she had potential. She really could have been the Crawley sister to strike out independently and really experience the 20s. And then series 2 happened and her story became all about Branson and I hate Branson and now they are going to have a baby and idek. What are their stories at Downton even going to be? Branson can't be a journalist while at Downton and it'd be a bit hypocritical for him to write radical pamphlets or articles while living with his super rich aristocratic in-laws. JUST LET THEM STAY IN DUBLIN WITH THE OCCASIONAL UPDATE VIA LETTER.

I loved the way Mary/Matthew was resolved. Matthew got over his self-induced Lavinia Guilt Complex and was totally there for Mary that was not possessive or creepy or about his own happiness (TAKE NOTE, BRANSON). Matthew cared that Mary was happy above all else, and when he stepped in he always just asked if he could help or if she was alright instead of controlling Mary's life. IDEK. I JUST LOVED THE WAY MARY/MATTHEW WAS WRITTEN LAST NIGHT.

Honestly, I'm hoping Branson dies in Dublin and Sibyl moves back. It's not out of the realm of possibility.

And yeah, Mary/Matthew seemed much more healthy here than it has in the past. Mary told him about the dude that died (and I was quite happy he said he didn't need to forgive her for that, because he doesn't) and it all around seemed much healthier.

I forgot this was happening! Yay! I'll have to watch it later...

It was fun!

I'm also glad Daisy got a Dad out of her marriage with William - someone with actual GOOD advice! It's nice that she's found her calling as a chef.

Matthew's 'tude was ruining Christmas, so thank goodness he came to his senses in the end. How lovely was the M/M proposal? Finally, an end scene I actually feel like re-watching for happiness purposes. I'm glad I have until fall to live in my delusions that they will live happily ever after. :D

I think DA wins the least depressing Christmas Special award of late! I mean, absolution and resolution for most characters, and Bates wasn't even executed before the ball! Due to circumstantial evidence claims at that, which will probably lead to his liberation at some point. WELL DONE, DA. Granted, I haven't seen the DW one yet, but knowing its track record of what makes a good Christmas Special...

XD Yeah, it's nice that Matthew finally got over his manpain.

Mary and Matthew were not awful!! \o/ I do not know why we could not have watched that relationship for 8 episode in S2 but FINE.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The cycle of emo is over! Hopefully. :D

You need to comment on my latest LJ entry, missy!

I tried watching this ep last night and ... well, I got bored. I just wished it would get on with it, already. Like did we have to witness every male character first react to Mary's "transgression" with indignation and then later be okay with it? Then again, maybe I'm just still annoyed with S2 in general, which I felt dragged on for too long.

Though now that Mary and Matthew are finally together (finally!), maybe the show start moving forward instead of rehashing stuff from S1.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh THAT entry! XD I ran off looking for a Downton Abbey post and was like "WHEEEEERE IIIIIIIIS IIIIIIIT?"

And of course we had to witness men's reaction's to Mary. SHE DONE WRONG. SCARLET LETTER AND SO ON. Or something. I was glad that Matthew did say he had nothing to forgive, because YES.

Maybe now everyone will start sprouting kids.

Um, September. THE RAT BASTARDS!

I'd love to see more spiritualism crop up, and pretty much every fic I read had Anna pregnant while Bates was in prison, thankfully the writers are much more awesome than that.

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Is that for September? Or for the pregnancy fics? Or for both? On my end it's both. :(

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, good. Fandom baffles me sometimes, they're married so clearly they need kids. I don't doubt that they'll have kids but fandom likes to jump the gun.
