What?

So I found a couch I really like that was this dark browny-suede color. I like. I buy. Saleslady rings me up.
Me: Oh wait. The receipt says Sage Green.

SL: Yes, that's the color of the couch.

Me: *blink* But the couch is brown.

SL: Well, that's the color of the couch.

Me: You're sure, you know, because of its browness?

SL: *checks tags* Yep, the floor model is "Sage Green."

    Me: Brooooown!

SL: I guess it *is* a really dark Sage Green.
They're going to show up at my door with a green couch, aren't they? I'm taking a friend with me back to the store this week to determine if I'm losing my mind. Or have gone color blind.

ETA: According to an online (and therefore highly accurate) test, I am not color blind. Woo!

Ha! The same thing happened when we bought our couch. But the right colored couch did show up.

...maybe the floor model is faded? Or the sales lady is stupid...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't faded, but was a very dark, and in my mind, a brown-tone color. When I think of sage, I think of this:

But the couch was more the color of these boots:

What test? *bounces*

I took a look at this page:

Actually, my dad is color blind so it wasn't outside the realm of posibility.

Ah those, my oculist normally makes me take them too when I for a check up but I never had any problems with them.

I guess that only .05% of women in the world are color blind, compared to 8% of men. I think I knew the reason once, but have long forgotten. Has to do with genetics.

Er, could possibly be something that's on the Y chromosome while for women it's not genetical? *vaguely remembers it has to do with genes*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2005-03-13 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be. I do know women tend to carry it as a recessive gene. Which means that since color blindness is recessive and I get one set of chromosomes from my dad, that I'm a recessive color blind carrier. I'm genetically impure!!!

*pats* Don't worry, we still love you. We just might not want to reproduce with you ;o)

Dude, I've seen that before, too. *g*

Good luck with the couch! *waits to see the color* ;)

I took my friend back there last night. We agreed there *might* be a *tiny* greenish tint to it but it really is brown. :D

Also meant to add--the gene for color blindness is on the X-chromosome, which means that guys who have only one X will be color blind if they get an X with the color blindess gene (from their mother), while girls have the chance of only being a carrier if they get a "normal" X from one parent. If that makes any sense. ;)

Ohhhh right. I vaguely remember that from my genetics class. :D
