Elementary! The Musical

So apparently in the in-production show of Sherlock (aka Elementary), Watson will be a woman. (Lucy Liu to be exact.)

I'm just really really amused. But not surprised. This way they get to have UST/RST that's palatable (it's CBS, duh).

[livejournal.com profile] shinyopals, does this mean I have to actually watch this so we can do battle? Even the description of the characters is like...urg. You're going to make me watch this, aren't you? (Even though I don't like House, Psych, Monk or any other supposed modern American Sherlocks.)

I tried it! I watched a few eps in the beginning, but then just wandered off.

[identity profile] lunachickk.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't they just have a fucking original idea of their own? No, they must steal one and then fuck it up improve on it.

*bangs head on desk repeatedly*

W/E W/E HATERS TO THE LEFT, LUCY LIU AS WATSON IS EASILY THE MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT THIS PRODUCTION

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
An original idea? It's Hollywood!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty indifferent to her. I've seen her in some okay things and some bad things. I'm just amused at the womanization of Watson.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
:P

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2012-02-28 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about Lucy Liu in particular, I think she was in Charlie's Angels? lirl, but I think making one of the leads a woman of colour is interesting. I mean, if I was going to pick, they'd both be ladies, or Holmes would be a woman and Watson would be a guy, but baby steps I guess.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I just wish I could believe they chose her because of gender/race equality.

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
ME TOO

Like it was okay? But it was clear to me that one episode would be like every subsequent episode, so I wandered. XD

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL DO BATTLE

*munches popcorn*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, pretty much.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
THERE WILL BE EPIC BATTLES. OPAL WILL RUB THE RST IN MY FACE AND I'LL THROW MOFFAT IN HERS. I MEAN, ACTUALLY THROW HIM.

[identity profile] papilio-luna.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNEW SOMEONE WOULD AGREE WITH ME AND THAT SOMEONE WOULD BE YOU.

The main barrier to all things Sherlock for me is too many dicks on the dance floor and casting a woman as Watson is a big step in rectifying that.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2012-02-28 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)

YEP basically. I mean it's still a CBS crime procedural which is very far from being my thing, but I will actually probably watch the pilot when/if it comes out now.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
MTE.

Like I just was not looking forward to another show about two dudes being bros. I mean a male/female partnership show isn't ground breaking either (see: Castle and Bones), BUT I just have a hard time connecting to a show with no female leads.

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I ALSO AGREE WITH THIS SENTIMENT.

I mean, I've been saying I'm an Elementary stan for a while now, but this is the first time I am feeling like this show might have something to offer me. I like American crime drama, but I've never been able to watch one without a female in one or more of the main roles.

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I THINK YOU SHOULD MAKE ME AN ICON SO WE CAN DO BATTLE PROPERLY, MICHELLE. XD

HERE YOU GO.

Michelle, my darling, my love, this is why I will never forsake you even if you start reading weresheep Sherlock AUs.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It needed explosions, guns and cars! XD

[identity profile] shinyopals.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
BUT NO EAGLE CRYING TEARS OF FREEDOM?

lol and BBC Sherlock will probably end up having as many guns per episode. XD

I SHOULD HAVE USED THE FLAG. I FAILED.

<3

This entire post and the comments made me cackle lots. (I'm of the omgLucyLiuyay, but don't care about the rest camp)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
XD

It should be even more entertaining once this thing airs.

... at least there'll be a woman in the cast?

*looks tenaciously on bright side*

There's a less than zero chance I'll watch it, anyway. Even though I kind of adore Lucy Liu.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-29 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I remain cynical as hell about it, but I have to admit I was cynical as hell about it before this was announced. This sort of sums it up for me:

http://cliqueclack.com/tv/2012/02/28/elementary-lucy-liu-watson/

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2012-02-29 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Because on the one hand, a woman of color is a main character in a prime-time CBS crime drama. Whoo-hoo! On the other, I absolutely have no faith in their capability to pull this off in a way that won't piss me off.

I will give it a shot, though. I did like House, for awhile (until they went nuts). Psych was amusing enough, but didn't interest me enough to stick with it. And I do like other procedurals, so... we'll see.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-02-29 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm expecting this to be a trainwreck, to be honest. Of course I'm not a huge fan of procedurals, so I might be a bit biased. :D

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2012-02-29 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's another half-baked idea from the Americans. Just like 90% of all the other shows they've tried to lift from Britain.

Just remember what they tried to do to Red Dwarf...
