I've fic'd!
Jan. 7th, 2014 04:56 pmIt's very short, but it's actual writing! Which means I can now put a check mark in the 2014 column. :D

I think I need to flounce from OUAT. So far this season it's had only one good ep - the one with Regina and Tinkerbell. The rest have been mediocre at best, and I don't know what the hell happened to their CGI budget. The Neverland plot is super annoying, and I want to kill Emma's love triangle story with fire and knives.
The thing that makes it even more super annoying is tumblr - I should just never ever ever wander into the tag. It's mostly fawning over Hook and/or Peter Pan - two characters I also want to kill with fire and knives. UGH.
I am seriously not surprised that the show is now only pulling 7 million as compared to the 11 million it was doing in S1 and the beginning of S2. (Ratings starting to tank with the introduction of Hook. Coincidence? I'll say not because I really hate Hook.)
In better news, have you seen the new promo pic for Sherlock S3? Because it looks like John/Sherlock fanart. Between this and the lens flair DW pics, you are so awesome, BBC promo dept. XD
- The Veronica Mars movie looks good!
- Catching Fire looks good!
- Matt Smith is capable of being a gross dudebro.
- Shippers are predictable when TPTB say that a fanon ship has no basis in reality. (HOW VERY DARE YOU. YOU'VE DISRESPECTED US. YOU'RE SO HOMOPHOBIC.)
- But casts can be super adorable.
- And I approve of info learned about Sherlock S3. ( Minor spoilerish comments. )
I need to stop looking at set stuff for Sherlock S3. I watched a couple of youtube clips of filming. BAD MICHELLE. But one of them ( Read more... )
But really, I need to stop that. :|
But really, I need to stop that. :|
Things I've learned on tumblr:
Mar. 12th, 2013 03:07 pm- There will be a S4 of Sherlock, which is good because I guess Moffat is going to end S3 on the BIGGEST CLIFFHANGERY SURPRISE EVENT KNOWN TO MAN? Or something. Dude. You're writing Sherlock Holmes, remember? This isn't Doctor Who. You're supposed to write mysteries that Sherlock and John solve. Period. ANYWAY. Apparently Benedict Cumberbatch opened his mouth and now everyone knows there will be a S4. :D
- The Fifty Shades author is writing a how-to guide for writing. Millions are appalled. Millions more will buy it.
- SPIROGRAPH. MY CHILDHOOD. I sort of want one now.
- Pugs remain hilarious just by existing.
- OuaT fandom remains hilarious just by existing.
Sherlock Fics
Feb. 19th, 2013 06:25 amI know a few people on my flist enjoy Sherlock, but aren't into the Sherlock/John slash. This looks to be a fairly big list of gen recs:

I threw in a few recs myself, and misspelled Reichenbach not once, but twice. (Go me!)

Ooooooooh.
Feb. 13th, 2013 06:23 amThe Sherlock set in mid construction in a 360 view! Neat! 221B is taking shape!

Sherlock Stuff
Nov. 6th, 2012 08:27 amSeeing gifs of that moment in Scandal when John (the person with army training) ducks and Sherlock and Irene turn into slo-mo action heroes, has made me think about my conflict when it comes to this show.
There truly is so much I dislike about this show - a big one being when Moffat throws logic out the window in favor of gimmick. (Which he does on DW all the damn time as well.) I hate it. I also hate the way he wrote Irene. And the way he wrote Molly. (She only gained a shred of dignity when written by someone else.) And their dubious stereotyping. Basically, I have Issues.
But I also love the stupid show. If I'm honest it's mostly due to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, because damn. I genuinely believe their acting on this show is stellar. Not just "great" but the kind of stuff I'm in awe of. Yes, that good. I don't fangirl their looks (I really don't care), but I do their talent.
Also their natural chemistry together is outstanding. There again I've seen plenty of actors who have "good" chemistry together, but this is altogether something else.
I like to think I don't give away this kind of fangirling easily. Which is probably why I tend to get defensive about the show sometimes, even though I know it has its crappy bits, and even when Moffat's being a douche.
In conclusion, you stupid show. If only you were less good in some things. Then it would be easy not to care.

Oct. 3rd, 2012 06:24 amAm reading a Sherlock-Avengers crossover fic (that's pretty good, btw), and I've learned something. Steve is supposed to be the leader of the Avengers??? Huh. I didn't get that in any small way from the movie. For one thing no one seemed to "lead" and for another if I had to pick someone, I'd say Tony. (Which, of course, means that he'd immediately hand the reigns over to Pepper.)
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Sep. 23rd, 2012 11:08 amTwo things I like in the same place! :D At some Emmy-related thing last night, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Maurice LaMarche were together! You might know the first two, but maybe not the third. He's the voice of Kif (and others) on Futurama as well Brain on Pinky & The Brain. (And about a billion other cartoons.)
( Picture of geekiness. )

PSA on one of my favorite fics.
Aug. 17th, 2012 06:39 amI've rec'd the Sherlock fic Till We Have Cases before. Looks like the author accidentally deleted (AO3 should have an "ARE YOU REALLY SURE?" on that) the story, and so it's in a new location. (Spreading the word in case you have subscribed to it.)

And it's just a good excuse to re-rec this fantastically charming and intelligent Greek Gods AU. It's a WIP, but the author is good about regularly updating. They're also extremely well versed in Greek mythology, and a lot of humor stems from it.

“…So let me see if I’ve got this straight now. No father.”
“Boring. None needed.”
“But your mothers—”
“Are the Muses.”
“At least four of them…. But not all?”
“We’re never been entirely sure. It often seems best to assume all of the Nine were involved, as they have something of a tendency to hunt in a pack.”
The Prince spluttered at the image and put the tea safely aside. “But at least four.”
“Well, that many were willing to admit after the fact that something had happened. I have never, of course, been able to discount the possibility that one or another of the four had chosen to take the heat for one or more of her sisters…”
