Doctor who?

I never finished watching S6.  So...why exactly didn't the Doctor go rescue baby Melody from a life of brainwashing?  I mean, was there an actual reason?  Is River a fixed point or something?

Based on what I remember hearing, do Amy and Rory still think the Doctor is dead?  And instead the Doctor's just been wandering around for hundreds of years or something?

You'd think Amy and Rory would tell the Doctor to fuck right off.  There really shouldn't be any mystery about how they'd leave, right?  A "yeah, don't call" should do it, yes?

Not rescuing their child + letting them believe he was dead = kind of a douche and off the Christmas card list.

(And this is why Sherlock is slightly better than the Doctor.  No babies needed saving. *nods*)

THERE IS NO REASON

ELEVEN IS JUST THE WORLD'S BIGGEST DOUCHEBAG

NO CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR HIM.

Yeah, no reason at all. Amy and Rory also seem perfectly fine with not actually getting to raise their daughter etc.

They do know he's not dead, River told them at the end of the episode and he visited them in the christmas special. Amy was cross for approximately five seconds and then they hugged and everything was fine. idek.

Well, at least there's that. Good thing for him River spread the word.

Eleven, you aren't supposed to be a bigger dick than Ten.

The popular theory is because way back at the Library, River told him not to change "one line" of her acquaintance with him and the Doctor is respecting her wishes. But if the Doctor's "death" at Lake Silencio is a fixed point, it'd make sense that in order for River to be there, her whole life would have to be fixed too. But I dunno. :-\

I personally hope Amy and Rory leave because Amy gets pregnant again and says, "Nuh uh, not trusting you with this one." I *love* the dynamic between Eleven, Amy and Rory, but I can't see either of them being willing to take the risk of losing another child to the Doctor's enemies. And I don't think he would want them to either.

Hrm. I guess that makes sense? Sort of?

The way I understood it was that his "death" was a fixed point. When River refused, it halted time, blah blah. She's in jail for his murder, and their time lines are timey-wimey so to change the Bain-washing would have created a paradox. The first time they met River essentially died (or something).

But apparently no one stays mad at the doctor. Except for Jackie and her slapping. XD

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-03-21 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, it REALLY sucks for River. Basically her entire life (and death, even) is a giant crapfest.

JACKIE IS AWESOME. :D

The reason is that 11 and/or Moffat was being an idiot, and there was no reason other than River being like "surprise! That was me! I'm fine!" to Amy and Rory after 11 ran off to rescue the baby, aka. doing nothing.

I'm not terribly impressed when characters or actions are dumbed down just to get a SURPRISE moment.

Basically Eleven is the worst ever.

ELEVEN: This little girl in the space suit, it's all about her. We have to help her. OR WE CAN IGNORE HER AND GO HAVE CRAZY SPACE ADVENTURES!!!

Later

ELEVEN: I'll find your baby. NAH JK I'VE GOT NO FUCKS TO GIVE SORRY ABOUT YOUR BABY THOUGH. DON'T WORRY I'LL BE MAKING OUT WITH HER A LOT THOUGH.

Sh.... stop asking logical questions...

Lol. Seriously though, people fanwank that the Doctor didn't rescue Melody because it'd be erasing River and she told him not to change anything in the library. BUT IF THIS WERE THE CASE, WHY COULDN'T THE CHARACTERS HAVE A FUCKING CONVERSATION ABOUT IT?

And yeah, River told Amy and Rory that the Doctor was alive at the end of 6x13 and you'd definitely think that they would tell the Doctor to fuck off for not caring about their baby and for faking his death. But instead, they're pretty excited to see him, and I think Amy even says that she sets a place for the Doctor at the table in case he shows up or whatever.

ELEVEN IS A TERRIBLE FRIEND. WHY ARE AMY AND RORY FRIENDS WITH HIM? IDGI.

River's storyline often makes my head hurt. And gives me the urge to shred things for some reason.

I KNOW, RIGHT? It really doesn't make a lot of sense other than the fact that he's ~The Doctor and loved by all. Sure he can do cool stuff and has a hot car, but at some point you think things would tilt the scale.

This conversation is not making me sad I missed Season 6. Just saying.

This is exactly why I quit watching DW in a rage and flounced off.

Seriously, why, people, why?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-03-21 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that DW is sci-fi/fantasy, but still. It needs some sort of rules of logic, yes?

I'm sad to say that while I did watch Series 6, I hardly remember much of it. I enjoyed the Doctor's Wife and even the one with Amy and Older!Amy.

I can barely remember the finale as well.

But at least this post sort of helped(?) bring back some memories!

*waves a flag* I can't say I'm all that interested in the new companion either, other than for Companion Bingo.

i take it back, i LOVED The Doctor's Wife, but that's cuz Neil Gaiman wrote it, and it was the only ep that made sense and worked for me.
