  • I've decided that jousting is one of the stupidest sports ever conceived. It just is.

  • Of course Eps 5 & 6 seemed to be filled with People Doing Stupid Things. Too much "I MUST HAVE REVENGE/POWER/HONOR" type stuff without thinking anything through.

  • I'm still liking Tyrion. I'm quickly coming to the realization he might be the smartest person in this fictional universe. His lines like "Am I being too logical for you?" make me chuckle.

  • Right, so half of the nobility is fucking nuts and the other half is...less nuts. I like that one guy's line about how the common people could give a rat's behind about who was on the throne as long as their day-to-day lives were fine. HMM. SORT OF REMINDS ME OF MODERN-DAY POLITICS.

  • Horses did not make out well in these two episodes. First one dude chopped off a horse's head (way to waste a valuable resource, idiot), and then that woman had to eat a whole raw horse's heart. For some reason. (Mentally insert Tyrion doing a facepalm and saying "good lord" here. He really is like the lone adult in the frat house.)

  • DEATH BY GOLD FOR THE DRAGON! Would gold really harden that fast? And for that matter, is an ordinary campfire hot enough to melt gold? If it is, melt that quickly? Clearly my disbelief was not fully suspended.

In the commentary on the Blu Ray they handwaved it. Harry Lloyd then said, with complete seriousness (except, you know, not) that Dothraki gold melts and sets quickly. It was all terribly scientific.

Yeah, I was a bit skeptical at it all. :D

Dany had to eat the horse heart (and not barf it up) in order to prove that her unborn child would be the baddest ass that ever badassed. Tangentially, I was looking at a baby name website today (don't judge) and one of the name meanings was something like "Conqueror of the World" and it got me thinking about whether I should name my son whatever STALLION WHO MOUNTS THE WORRRLLLLDDDDD is in Dothraki. And then I looked up at the running ticker across the top of the page that shows what names people are looking at in real time and someone was actually looking up 'Joffrey.' On a baby name site. Please do not do that to your child, random internet person.

And yeah, I always lol at the Death by Gold scene because gold does not work like that BUT on the other hand there is a hilarious *KERTHUNK* sound effect and Viserys dying like that is just funny.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-26 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
NOT JUDGING YOU. But your kid might. XD

That THUNK was the best! BWAH!

One thing that really stuck out to me on rewatch was the sheer number of dumb decisions made by all, especially Ned. Stupid, ~honourable Ned.

Viserys' death is hilarious every single time IDEK.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-04-26 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ned is really dumb. But I kind of love him anyway. He was just not cut out for politics.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-26 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm finding myself talking to the TV a lot with "you are stupid" type comments.

*THUNK* THE CLUNKING SOUND. XD

Maybe in the Westeros universe where seasons go on for years, gold has a lower melting point? IDK. I do not think George RR Martin is a scientist. But the effects of the gold melting on his head is really cool, so I will give him a pass.

Am still very curious about this magical physics-defying universe. XD

It seems a bit like "I AM REALLY PISSED OFF SO I'M GOING TO SHOVE MY CAR OFF A CLIFF." Of course the correct response to that is "moron."

I'm quickly coming to the realization he might be the smartest person in this fictional universe.

I'm frequently surprised that his eyes aren't locked into an eyeroll position. Because he is clearly far too sensible for everyone in Westeros.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-26 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
TOTALLY. XD XD

Tyrion is indeed quite brilliant, in stark (heh) contrast to the majority of the people around him. Of course it tends not to work out all that well for him sometimes, as when folks don't get the oft-abstract nature of possession. (Which was one of my favorite moments in ep 6.) :P

half of the nobility is fucking nuts and the other half is...less nuts
This is true. Sigh. For a very careful definition of "less", of course.

And yeah, the melting gold was waved off in the commentaries, as [livejournal.com profile] misssara11 said, with Harry Lloyd's excellently scientifical explanation of the special properties of Dothraki gold. XD

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-27 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was worried for him for a bit in ep 6! He almost got killed due to others' stupidity.

And that handwave of the gold cracks me up. *THUNK* XD

When you're done and/or if you don't care about spoilers, this tumblr is one of the funniest things ever. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT MEETS GAME OF THRONES. This is like, at least 60% of the reason I kept watch GOT originally.

lol I love it so much
