I dub you Sir Moron.

  • So Robert dies and everyone spazzes and the throne is in play. This is really the heart of the books/series, I imagine, but blah blah blah blah. The politics of all this is the least interesting bit to me. Plus Ep 7 had a complete lack of Tyrion and Arya, so MEH.

  • Again they tease with the creepy stuff that goes on beyond The Wall. I WANT TO SEE THIS STORY ALL THE TIME, DAMMIT.

  • Wow, Ned is really dumb. Why is it in stories like this that honor and intelligence never seem to go together? If a character is honorable, they won't have the ability of strategy. Also the opposite - if a character can strategize, it must mean they're a dishonorable person. It drives me a bit nuts.

  • If Arya dies will be MIFFED. Sansa...meh. (I still don't hate Sansa or anything -- I understand why she's doing what she's doing -- but I'm still not that interested in her as a character.) The other brothers - I still can't tell them apart so if one of them is killed I probably won't notice one of them missing.

  • I don't care who wins the throne, but someone needs to take out the weird breast-feeding woman.

  • ZOMBIES! XD XD XD

In other news, this pic is now my computer wallpaper. Not only is it otter Sherlock and hedgehog John cuteness, it was tweeted by Martin Freeman's S.O.! It's awesome and makes me grin every time I see it!

And now back to watching Gordon Ramsay being an asshole to people.

:(

I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT LYSA (aka weird breast-feeding woman). Like. She's actually kind of a tragic character, but she's so minor that I know her backstory is never going to make it from the books onto the show. I mean, she's crazy. No doubt about it. BUT IDK. SHE'S JUST REALLY SAD TO ME.

Ned is pretty dumb, but like. He never wanted to the King's Hand. He was not cut out for politics. He's a soldier and he's a good and just lord. He just has no idea how to play the game of thrones. He's just this decent man who is always trying to do what is best and doesn't care about personal power, but at court, he can't really afford the luxury of honor.

I haven't felt much sympathy for her yet. I think it's because she's busy majorly screwing up her kid.

The poor dude should have just stayed in the North.

Definitely. On the other hand, how do you say 'no' to the king?

And, to be honest, not the MOST stable guy in Westeros.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. And I think that's part of Ned's problem too. He keeps seeing Robert as the boy he grew up with instead of the fail king he'd become.

[identity profile] allisnow.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh Robert. Speaking of someone else who was good as a warrior but really wasn't comfortable playing Ye Olde GoT. He had people to play it for him... until those people ran out of reasons to need him around...

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt that Lysa's story is ever going to be told on the show because the show has to compress each massive book into one 10 episode season, so a lot of the richness of the backstory has to be cut. It's just easier for the show to boil her character down to "that crazy lady who breast feeds her eight year old son", but like there are reasons why she is the way that she is. I just don't think the show is ever going to get around to explaining them. Ah well.

Ned should definitely have stayed in the North. He was just not cut out fo this. He wasn't even meant to be lord of Winterfell. He was the second son who only became Lord when his father and elder brother were killed by the mad king. He wasn't groomed for this and he's not a natural. He's just... he's Ned.

[identity profile] allisnow.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
... we are going to see Lysa again... Maybe more backstory then. :)

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
We might. But idk. There's just so much plot related stuff that the show has to pack in that it doesn't have time to fully flesh out all the characters. So yeah, I hope we get Lysa's backstory, but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe they could cut out a couple minutes of Littlefinger-related porn and give it to Lysa instead (the minutes, not the porn. Ew.)

[identity profile] solielle.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
On HBO? Pfpfpfpffffft. Stranger things have happened, I guess.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
This is where I think there'll be a big difference between people who have read the books and people who have only seen the show. Just like with a lot of other book adaptations, a lot of stuff gets cut and you miss out on the richness of a lot of characters.

[identity profile] jemster.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I refuse to read the books until the series is complete. I want to read it all the way through and not have to wait for the next installment. It's the same reason why I don't generally read WiP fics.

[identity profile] jemster.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's more a memory thing than anything else. In between books - which can be a year or more - I know I'll forget something and then have to go back. It's not like I'll finish the series any later than people who are reading the books as they came out.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I would be LOST with all the characters if I waited that long between books.

[identity profile] jemster.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Word. As as an aside, when ISN'T G.R. an asshole to someone? I think he's even a butthead to people in his dreams.

lol stupid Ned and his BILLION different opportunities to make this situation as minimally shitty as possible and his determination to use none of them. IN THE GAME OF THRONES YOU WIN OR YOU DIE NED. lol that Arrested Westeros Tumblr, now every time I watch Ned do anything I just think "I'VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE".

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ned really needed to stop and think before he did things.

I need to go back and look at that tumblr. :D

Also the breastfeeding scene disturbed me more than basically anything else on this show IDK.

HA! I think I know who you're talking about. He looks like one of the brothers but isn't actually a brother. And the only time I remember it is when someone calls him by his full name. XD

This annoys the crap out of me. I desperately want a character who is both honorable and can strategize on my TV. It seems so rare. And somehow, Ned's dumbness seems to stick out so much worse on TV than in the books. Maybe it's because they had to cut a bunch of stuff out to make everything fit?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's not like he didn't know that the Queen hadn't killed before in order to keep her secret. Did he really think approaching her first would end well? DUH.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't know. It's a problem I have with shows sometimes - they have the honorable, straightforward character blab everything they know or are planning to the bad guys. And it's not because it's necessarily in character for that person, but because the writers are lazy and can't figure out a way for the bad guys to find out that information otherwise. It's frustrating.
