I kind of have a hate-hate relationship with tumblr going. It lures me in with pretty things and then whaps me over the head with the stupid/scary/wrong. Tumblr is basically an anglerfish.
Every time I have a SOMEONE IS WRONG ON THE INTERNET moment, I'm tempted to get one so I can troll troll troll. (And reblog a lot of Sherlock gifs.) I could become the most hated person on tumblr! But then that'd be defeating the point. Like I've said before, I believe tumblr is a MMORPG where the objective is to acquire and manage friends. There's also a secondary objective involving otters.
Am conflicted. On the one hand, there's bad logic going down and clearly I must be the one to stop it! (Obviously. Or not.) On the other, most days I can't be assed to do meta (fandom-related or non-fandom-related) anymore. Too draining.

I have one mainly for fandom news and such that falls through the cracks on Twitter/FB/LJ, but I don't use it a whole ton. It's really hard to have conversations with people on there, and 99% of the fun of fandom for me is having other people to share it with, and discuss it with. That's why I stick to LJ and even, to a much lesser extent FB, than Twitter or Tumblr.

The format is bad enough in the best cases, but omg when people have animations and I'm trying to read a longer piece I get so woozy >.< ... lol I have to copy/paste anything I want to read at that point if it's not crossposted >.<....

Basically this is how I feel when I head into the tracked tags:

Yeah, it seems like a lot of chaos combined with passive agressiveness. XD

And I'm not even sure if MySpace is still online. XD

But the only way to really survive is to find people who you think talk sense and then follow them. And then stay away from the tags. Those people who talk sense will then appear on your dash and you don't have to look any further.
I keep having to go into the tags for The Legend of Korra, because I don't follow enough Korra people...and then the hate and immaturity and misogyny going on in the tags makes me make passive aggressive posts about how awful the tags are!
But it is a very cluttered site and I prefer fic to be on LJ because it's easier to locate it again if you want! I have over 10,000 liked posts on tumblr. I would never be able to find a fic I liked unless I had reblogged it and tagged it (and tagged it with something I'd remember, since you don't have a tag list).
But if you do need to read fic on tumblr, the 'readability' add on for browsers is a must. It strips away side bars and backgrounds and crap and you can change the colour and size of the text etc.

And I can't even imagine ever finding something back on tumblr. There's no way!
Re: Fic. I'm not even sure I want to do that. I'm feeling a bit antagonistic towards an author that would choose to post fic on tumblr.

Hmm...I know there are some good Glee fics on tumblr (which is the fandom I'm mostly on the site for) but most of the time they are crossposted to LJ, AO3 or the Klaine fic archive anyway. But if there is one thing in Tumblr's favour, it's that it can be quick and easy to post to, so I suppose that may appeal to some people. But I don't think I've come across a fic that I've been linked to from LJ that is ONLY hosted on tumblr.

I do keep torturing myself by going into the various Korra tags, but I don't tend to get too far through them before I give up. And then I go and make another post about how Asami is amazing, or how it's possible for a teenager (read: Mako) to make a mistake without hating them for eternity, or how enjoying the ships in a show doesn't invalidate you from enjoying the show as a whole...etc.

Which is rarely. I don't have an account and basically hate everything about it. Except every once in a while the fact that Tumblr doesn't realize that file sharing is not entirely legal and that their chosen platform has no ability to lock or hide posts. I still shake my head at their stupidity, but I'll take the links, thanks.

OH MAN, THE FILE SHARING. I gape at the amount of posts I see that involve file sharing. JUST HOW STUPID ARE YOU PEOPLE??

Unfortunately, my main fandom right now is dead on LJ and active on tumblr. So...
