Internet polls are serious.
Rose won the BBC America Doctor Who Companion poll!
First of all, YAY ROSE! :D As much as I like other companions, Rose will always be My Companion.
Second, butthurt abounds. The usual reasons on why Rose cannot possibly be the popular choice with sane fans and/or fans who aren't 14 year old girls with David Tennant posters on the wall. All I have to say is MWAH.
Thirdly, I accidentally took a 4 hour nap and I feel like crap. DAMN YOU, HEAT. Although maybe it will rain this evening? It's looking weird outside.
BTW, the popularity poll wound up like this:
1. Rose
2. Sarah Jane
3. Donna
4. Leela
(Really, Leela? I don't hate her by any means, but I'm always sort of surprised at how popular she is. Also, not sure where Martha or Amy finished out.)

Even after watching many other companions, I think I always come back to Rose. She and Donna have my heart and when it comes to the companions, they probably always will. My husband and I were talking about companions (we were getting on the discussion of Jenna and wondering what she was going to be like) and I realized that one reason I like Donna and Rose the most is that Rose's stories seemed to bring out what I liked to see in the Doctor, character-wise (compassion, a little bit of almost-romance, fun, and later her memory brought out a pained side of him that I did find interesting to see him deal with), and Donna -- or Catherine Tate, rather -- brought out what I thought was some of the best in David Tennant; they were all absolutely brilliant together, but yeah... that's kind of what I really loved about those two in particular.
As for Rose, I think the comment from the article's author also made me remember that Rose was a risky character, and the show's revival was riding on her success just as much as the Doctor's (if not more). And what can I say, two stories that absolutely made me realize how much I was in love with Doctor Who centered on Rose ("Father's Day") and then the Doctor himself ("Dalek"). *shrugs*
So whiners can whine and haters can hate all they want, Rose did it for a lot of us. ;)
And YES THIS HEAT IS KILLING ME!! XPPP

Rose brought amazing things out of the Doctor - like RTD said one, she humanized him a lot. (For good or bad, that's how I was introduced to the Doctor, and I just don't care for him being all cold and distant.)
