Odd computer question

I have a strange thing with the computer at work. The dialup internet connection "times out" (for lack of a better word). It will go full force for about five minutes and then, no matter what I'm doing whether it's downloading something or loading a page, it will just stop. Nothing coming or going for about a minute. Then it starts back up again.

I use my work and my personal ISP (depending on what I'm doing) on that computer. The "time outs" happen with both ISPs. I have no problems with my personal ISP when I use it at home.

Do I have something set weird on the modem? It really bugs the crap out of me.

Well, I'm off to go watch the season finales of Gilmore Girls and 24 with some friends! :)

I used to get that - apparently it had something to do with the telephone lines. The ones in our area were *really* old, and therefore it kept dropping out, no matter what we did. They replaced the lines and we haven't had a problem since.

It could also be the computer. Sometimes it just overloads and shuts things down. Used to happen to me all the time - hasn't happened since we got our new computer, so it's all good.

Just suggestions :)

You know, I think it might be the computer - it's really old. Like a Pentium 133 (dinosaur!) I'm pretty sure it's not the phone lines. I work in a newer downtown high rise. Lousy computer. :P

Just suggestions :)

Thanks! :)
