SG Gear-up room vs. locker room

This question is mainly for [livejournal.com profile] chiroho, but thought I'd put it out in the open instead of just emailing since it might be of interest to others. Someone else may know the answers too.

Okay, my understanding is that there are men's and women's locker rooms and then there is a separate SG-1 gear-up room. I have a few questions.
  1. It looks like the clothes SG-1 runs around in at the SGC are the same clothes they wear offworld. Is this true? Or do they have different clothes? Are they all called BDUs?

  2. In Urgo we see the gear-up room (right?). It looks like they all have BDUs hanging in their "lockers." So do they change in the gear-up room? (Would kind of make me think they do wear different clothes offworld than what they wear around the base.)

  3. Do they keep clothes in the actual locker rooms? Probably their civvies, right? And maybe their base runaround clothes?

  4. After a mission, would they first go to the gear-up room to get rid of some of their stuff (like their vest) and then go to the locker room? Or just head straight to the locker room?
Actually, the last question is what I'm the most interested in. For a fic I'm forever working on and I'm just not sure if they're in the locker room or the gear-up room.

Think I might head out in a little bit to *finally* go see The Matrix! :) The local theater has some early shows. Yay!

What sort of a reputation am I getting myself!! ;)

1. They are *similar*, but not quite the same. For example, you never see them wearing desert cams(camouflage) {as seen in Full Circle for example} on base. What they wear off world are BDU's, what they were on base is more of a working uniform than strict BDU's, but BDU's is probably the right term.

2. I think we actually first see it way back in "The Enemy Within", but yes, there is a separate "Gear Up" room. They do partially change. For example, they'd change from their working dress to desert BDU's, they would keep jackets, ponchos, webbing, equipment, flak vests, etc. in the "gear up" room. But it's not necessarily a complete strip and dress in something else entirely.

3. Yes, civilian clothes would be in the locker rooms. This is also wear the showers are. It's also likely that they'd keep their dress uniforms there, as well as several sets of regular working dress (BDUs), in case they have to change for some reason.

4. Yes, they would likely go to the "Gear Up" room first to strip equipment and the like, before heading to the locker rooms for a shower. You don't ever see them carrying webbing, flak jackets, hats, etc. to the locker room.

And as for the separate locker rooms, my understanding was that there was *one* locker room that was sometimes the women's locker room, and somtimes the men's - it was based on some sort of schedule. I certainly remember that from the early seasons.

Now that *may* have changed later on, but my recollection of PL was that Sam says to Teal'c that "this is the women's locker room now", or something to that effect.

BTW, enjoy Matrix Reloaded!!

Kick arse, save the world and style your hair all at low, low prices! :o)

It all comes back to the hair.

It also just occurred to me that the "Gear Up" room is on level 28, while the Locker Room is much higher - level 17 or something. So they'd definitely go to the gear-up room before the locker room after a mission.

Beautiful! Actually, them going to the gear up room first makes my life a whole lot easier anyway.

My work is done!

Actually, I remember a long discussion on this on samandjack a few weeks back. Someone even went to the trouble of analyzing the room number that was visible on the door of the gear-up room. If you're really interested you should take a look. Of course it was morjana who answered it, but her post is number 64052.

I checked it out just for the heck of it. Yup. L28. Which makes sense. Boy, wish I had zoom on my DVD player.

Well I don't on mine and mine is less than 6 months old. I guess it just depends on the features you buy. :(

Yup. I opted for the nice 5 DVD changer. I can throw a whole season in that way. :) Actually, it's great for all those multi-disk movies/tv shows.

I just have a basic single disk model, but then I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money. Gives very nice quality, but for some reason is lacking the zoom feature. Still, Consumer Reports gave it a great rating, which is why I bought it.

I went the Costco route. *Very* nice price. :)

I thought about that, but Best Buy had it on sale, I had a coupon, and they have some additional plan where they'll replace it for free if it breaks within three years. What more could you want?

Welcome!

Heh. When I think of locker room discussions, I always think of Suz' fic "Peek-A-Boo."

Now I have to go and read it! While I'm sure I've read it before, I don't seem to have a good memory for story names!

Um yes and your reputation is that you're the fount of all knowledge.

At least that's the one you're saying to my face! ;)

Thanks! I did! As soon as I scrounge through the emails, I'm going to go hunting for people discussing it.

There's something of a discussion in this post of Suz. That's the most I've seen so far.

And it was yum too! Of course, one of the joys of having a 14 month old is bringing in the hazmat team to clean up after they eat Italian! *g*
