I've tried to type up some kind of BSG comments about three times since Friday night and every time I've deleted it.

I still don't have a firm grasp on it all. I think it's one of those things that needs to age/mellow a bit before it becomes focused to me. But I think I'll do numbered points like [livejournal.com profile] elismor. It's easier that way.
  1. Poor Anders is so dead. He done got the cough of doom. *Although* I wouldn't put it past these PTB to simply use the illness to show us Starbuck and Apollo's states of mind and their relationship to each other, without actually killing Anders off. BSG's PTB are crafty like that.

  2. I'm not sure what to make of Starbuck's mudhausfrau status. I've seen lots of comments on this – about how it's out of character for Starbuck to give up flying to go and play wifey. My problem with really making up my mind on this is the fact that we were only shown about 30 minutes of Starbuck's life in that year later. All we *really* know is that she and Anders are married, she lives in a tent, owns a stove and probably hasn't stepped foot on Galactica in several months due to hugging Tigh which was...really? Hugging Tigh? M'kay. We have no idea how she fills her days. Is she a shuttle pilot? Dog catcher? Knitter of maternity wear? Just on extended honeymoon leave with the intention of remaining a patrol pilot?

  3. And continuing with Starbuck - marrying Anders doesn't surprise me in the least. She loves him and getting back to him had been her life's goal in S2. But TPTB are obviously going to eventually do the Lee/Kara thing by showing Lee being completely wrecked by both the appearance of Anders and the unintentional (or maybe intentional) cruelty by Starbuck. Anders may die yet. Poor Anders.

  4. Adama and Roslin really did screw over the Colonies just so they could sleep at night, didn't they? (I first saw this idea on someone else's journal – don't remember whose though since I read so many yesterday.) The more I think about it, the more I'm going with this notion. They knew what Baltar would do. Roslin knew Baltar was in collusion with the cylons. They knew what needed to be done. But they wanted a clear conscience. (Kudos to TPTB for showing something *really* grey – but they've been always pretty good at not having BSG exist in a black and white world.)

  5. Chief/Cally was a complete surprise to me. Never saw that one coming. But it was cute.

  6. The one thing that I am most looking forward to in the first episode of S3 is Six (I forget what we're calling this one) and Baltar being able to talk alone. Tricia Helfer stole that scene at the end. So much so that while I haven't really cared much about Baltar/Six in the past, I am really craving to see this played out.

  7. How messed up would it be if all this year later stuff was in Baltar's head? Heh heh. I *really* don't think they'd go that route though. It's a very cheap move.

  8. Mustache and hair extensions of DOOM.

Oooh, good call on point 4. I've been mulling that over, but hadn't been able to put my thoughts into coherent form. I can't help but compare it to the behavior of some people in real life who do utterly illogical things and then sit back in astonishment at the consequences, saying, "But I never thought this would happen!"

Because, yes, stealing elections is bad. Handing over the reigns of the government to a known collaborator is worse. And seeing the contrast between how the average person lived on New Caprica vs. Baltar and his cronies -- like anyone was surprised that would happen?

Ack. I can't wait until October!

I wish I could remember whose journal I saw that thought on, because it was a very interesting point.

Throughout her Presidency, Roslin has made some morally questionable choices for the survival of the Colonies. I'm really surprised that she was able to justify to herself her flop on abortion issues but was unable to justify the election rigging thing.

(And to make us wait until October - just cruel!)

I think that Anders is going to die, and to make the Lee/Kara thing work Dee will have to die too, but that is probably more distant.

I think Adama and Roslin knew that Baltar was a bad choice as president, but 4. I don't think they thought out the reality of what things would be like under his rule, they were into the morality of the moment. What surprised me is how complacent Roslin seemed about things at the end. The problems of the presidency were no longer hers to worry about because she was just a school teacher again. WTF?

5. I did see the Chief/Cally thing comming. She has been mooning over him the whole time. I think the jump to them being a happy couple with a baby on the way in just a year's time was a bit fast. there had to be some time for the relocation from Galactica and to get life set up.

6. TC was awsome in that scene. I had liked the Peagsus Six (I think that is what she was called) because she seemed so fragile and not just a sexpot to distract Baltar or any other male around. And even though she had been downloaded into a new body (which I didn't think could happen after the resurection ship was destroyed) she still had that fragile quality about her.

7. SPOILER. I read an interview with RDM and it was not just in his head.

I still don't like the way the story line has gone, and am still digesting it, but I am curious to see what they will do with it now.

I think they could keep her around. They seem more together due to proximity and convenience rather than undying love. (Yeesh. I'm starting to sound like a shipper.)

I don't think they thought out the reality of what things would be like under his rule, they were into the morality of the moment.

I'm not so sure about that. Roslin seemed pretty aware of what kind of person Baltar was and that's why she went ahead with the election rigging in the first place. But they probably were caught up in the emotions of the moment. And I think both of them are just plain worn out from it all.

I did see the Chief/Cally thing comming. She has been mooning over him the whole time.

Really? I'm totally blind! :D Of course, if I watch it all again, it'll probably jump out and bite me on the butt.

because she seemed so fragile and not just a sexpot to distract Baltar or any other male around.

Yeah, I think that's exactly it. She conveyed this massive vulnerability just from facial expressions. It was really good.

I read an interview with RDM and it was not just in his head.

Good. That would have been eye-rolling.

Quite franly, I wouldn't be surprised if at the start of next season, they forget they did the whole "one year later" thing and actually go back to where we were at and then do a sort of "how they got there" type thing. If that makes any sense whatsoever. At least then we'd know what ACTUALLY happened in that year.

Oh no, now we have to sit through a baswillion fanfics of "what happened". Crap, it's like Alias all over again. Why Ron, WHY?!?!

[identity profile] andsheloves.livejournal.com 2006-03-15 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
that's supposed to say "frankly" not "franly". Hmmm...

I've seen people post this idea - the whole "One Year Earlier" thing. Not sure if I could take it. There'd probably be screaming at the TV. :D

Oy. Why do I have the feeling that 99.99999% of the fics will involve melodramatic, angsty sex?

Oh, but it has to. It must! It's for the good of humanity!

And I don't think that I could take it either. But, we'll see what they do.

But I just laughed so hard when I heard Kara's last line. Very Pinky and the Brain.
"The same thing we do every night, Pinky, Try to take over the WORLD!"

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
BWAH!!

Pinky and the Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain... :D

[identity profile] andsheloves.livejournal.com 2006-03-17 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's the first thing I thought of when I heard it. I'm like "Did she just say that? Whuh? BRAIN!!!!!"

And I could not believe that she HUGGED TIGH!!!! And Lady McBeth! What is going on in the world?!?

[identity profile] andsheloves.livejournal.com 2006-03-17 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
She hated that man, like with a vengeance. And now she's hugging him.
Ooh, what's that outside my window? A pig? Flying? Fancy that.

It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know and I feel fine.

Yup. It seemed to me the most disjointed part of the "year later" scene. The rest may have been somewhat surprising, but seemed to work for me.

I guess I'm still a little distraught over the whole she's married and Lee's fat thing. And the whole Lee/Dee thing. I mean, come on. She's supposed to be with Billy. I know, the kid's dead, but still, mourn for a while, or go for someone who's more your type. Like, Gaeta, he's fun!
