So, so tired.

So, wait. Some SV fans gave MR a box of sex toys at some con/meet-and-greet? Wow. That's a whole lot of desperately-needs-a-restraining-order right there. Hello, boundaries?

I woke up to the radio telling me that a fistfight had broken out after a fender-bender on the freeway this morning. Sorry, but I'm amused. Of course that may be due to the fact that my sleepy mind is picturing the fights from the Bridget Jones movies. (Funniest fights ever.)

I really need to get moving, but couldn't get out of bed this morning. Must be the rain. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I do not understand this strange Earth concept of "boundaries." Tell me more!

You see, when a reality and a clue love each other very much...

BWAH!

[identity profile] josephides.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, that's awful. Really, really awful. From what I can gather from seeing interviews with MR, he's got a pretty wacky sense of humour so DEAR GOD I hope he thought that was funny.

I wouldn't. I'd be taking out those restraining orders and, um, possibly moving to Canada.

From what little I read from here (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/912126.html) it sounded like he was okay with it. Of course, the source is from the people who did it so...

Yeah, total restraining orders. And his reaction to it seems after the fact anyway. If a person can't see anything wrong with giving an actor that they're not close personal friends with a box of sex toys, then they need to turn off the TV and the internet for like a year.

lol! I know MS was asked to sign a 'sex toy' at a con once.

I know!

Sad thing is, you do get some that go beyond the boundaries of whats decent behaviour.

luckily over here that rarely happens. I guess whats why british cons are more relaxed.

I just can't relate to getting that far out of touch with reality.

I've heard there's a very big difference between North American cons and British cons. British cons do not sound scary to me.

Over here the actors walk around freely and no one will go up to them or bother them. They also feel safe enough to come to the parties and again no one will bother them, they go up and dance with people.

The atmosphere is very relaxed.

I think its just the british way.

it is!

You will have to come over and find out first hand!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooh. I could go to a DW con!

[identity profile] sesaworuban.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Although I found Gatecon in Vancouver to be equally relaxed as well. So maybe Canadian cons fit into the non-US model as well.

Sounds like Toronto Trek, a Canadian con I like to go to from time to time.

Yes I hear the canadian ones are good too. :)

They can be quite fun. :)

I would love to go to canada and to a canadian con, almost went to gatecon a few years back, but alas money and kids prevent it at present. lol

[identity profile] pixiesio.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh! Yup, those can get in the way!

[identity profile] meeshy.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I have to agree with Jo! A lot of fans from the USA call the actors at cons all manner of derogatory names (arrogant is a favourite used for Joe Flanigan and Michael Shanks, neither of whom *I* found arrogant when I met them!), I used to wonder why - the same actors were fabulous over here but when I read things like that, it reinforces my view that our cons are just different.... The worst thing I can say I've ever seen at a con here was someone asking MS for a hug, then grabbing his butt. He was uncomfortable by it but the next day one of the crew stood up and said she apologised on behalf of everyone else who did not think it was right - everyone applauded and I think generally uk fans are like that!!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. Just...wow. Apparently to some, actors really aren't people.

[identity profile] meeshy.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I mean, you wouldn't do it to a stranger. And there's no way in HELL any of the men would have done it to Anna Louise Plowman! So why this girl thought that she had the right to invade MS's personal space I have no idea! Asking for a hug (during the Q&A) was bad enough (taking up time we wanted to hear Q's and A's!) but to go that one step too far was awful to watch! I felt so bad for him! I'm just glad that someone said something!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I would have been embarrassed watching that as well.

[identity profile] meeshy.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I was a raffle ticket seller, and that was the only talk I wanted to watch - later on I was selling tickets and realised I was selling her tickets when she was so.god.damn.proud of what she'd done.

The mind how it boggles...

[identity profile] sesaworuban.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I heard about this... I believe several guests were asked to sign it and... funnily enough... everyone refused. :)

And isn't that what the stewards are there to check?

Heh heh heh. I bet they see some really weird stuff, although that was probably up at the top of the list.

Well you would think so..

but I think it was the paris con where from what I hear it was just like like in a hand basket anyway.
