VM

Well, finished Veronica Mars S1 and it was *definitely* worth the $18 they're selling the box set at nowadays. I'm not ready to go out and write fic or obsess to the point of madness about the show, but I was very entertained. So much so, I went out and bought S2 this morning. And it takes a lot for me to actually marathon a show without getting bored and/or feel the need to go do something else.

  • Veronica. How could I not love this character? She's really a modern, angry Nancy Drew. Heh heh.

  • I knew Veronica/Logan was coming from having watched a couple of S2 eps recently, but still it seemed...a bit odd. Not that I was against it or anything, but one second they hated each other and the next they were making out. I admit, the drama gets high during the high school years, but it would have been nice to see some sort of hints of it to set it up ahead of time. Again, not against the pairing - I find it entertaining. Just the setup was jarring.

  • Duncan is *way* more fucked up than Logan. Just felt the need to say that. Not that Logan isn't as well. The whole "I just want to protect you" line was, well, Logan needs therapy for Dad issues and women issues (which are a result of Dad). Duncan just needs therapy. Period.

  • Keith Mars is all kinds of AWESOME.

  • One slightly irking point - whenever Veronica would imagine what had happened to Lilly, different things were used, like a table edge, in killing her. Wouldn't Veronica have at least known what was used to kill her? They would have found that thing in the pool and it would have made headlines. What was that thing anyway? A radio?

  • The finale with the fire was a bit over the top. :D Ah well. Teen drama. Plus, Keith Mars is still awesome.

  • I'm a bit confused about the plot involving Veronica's mother. Was that completely unrelated to Lilly's murder? The reason they were threatening her was only because she was threatening to sue to get a paternity test? A bit of a red herring?

  • ETA: *Very* cool seeing all these San Diego sites in the show. Recognize *lots* of places. The place along the beach where Veronica found her upstairs neighbor? Just down a ways from my favorite breakfast place. They went to Belmont Park too. One thing I totally forgot to mention was that a while back I saw one of those hand-made posters with "V Mars" and an arrow - you know the ones used for film productions - a while back when driving through a very rich neighborhood. Meant to mention it to [livejournal.com profile] poohmusings but forgot.

I enjoyed Veronica Mars a lot. I'm not much of a Veronica/Logan fan though. I don't know why exactly.

But zomg yes, Keith Mars is best daddy on tv!

Yeah, I'm not all shippy over either Veronica/Logan or Veronica/Duncan. Probably because they're both such teen relationships, which is to be expected.

Yay for Keith!
woodface: ([vm] what?)

Possibly. Plus, they're both too messed up for me to wish on Veronica. It's another show that I am happy to realise that I don't ship in because it reassures me that I'm not a compulsive shipper. That being said Keith/Alicia is sweet and if I *have* to ship Veronica with anyone it's Weevil. Yay Weevil!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-09-10 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Right - both Logan and Duncan need growing up and therapy before I'd want to see some kind of "love of a lifetime" relationship with Veronica. Yeah, Veronica has her own issues, but she's like 10 years older maturity-wise.

Keith/Alicia is SO sweet. :)

And yeah. I could see Veronica with Weevil. :)

*nods* Veronica really is mature for her age. But then sometimes it feels like all these kids are a bit too grown up for their setting. Which is yet another reason why I'm boggling at belgian television deciding to air Veronica Mars in a 17:30 timeslot because wtf this is not your average teenage show.

And now I'm just curious what you'll think of S2.

Oh, I've pretty much come to expect that teen drama shows do not look like teens in any way, shape or form. I mean, my high school years most resembled the dance in Sixteen Candles - full of non-perfect kids going through their awkward years. Heh heh.

I think in a way it's also because I'm boggling at the way american schools seem to be organised. So I have an aditional WTF to deal with. (I had this too when watching Elephant and all I could think was 'omgwtf how can you be this disorganised and chaotic with your students?)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-09-10 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Organized? Like...class structure? Or...?

Pretty much everything. *finds it hard to explain*

A lot of Veronica in one sitting

Keith Mars is awesome.

My viewing of S1 was slightly out of order. I didn't start watching it til mid-season and played catchup after the season finale. So I'm slightly confused as to the timing.

Keith Mars is awesome.

WTF was with the fire

Keith Mars is awesome.

Still not sure about Veronica's mother.

Keith Mars is awesome.

Yeah, I like that character (and the actor)

WTF was with the fire

Yeah. Just a bit melodramatic.

Yeah, I like that character (and the actor)

Totally!!

I think that was the gist of VM's mother's story but could be wrong, that was the one bit I got confused over too!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-09-10 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it was meant to kind of throw you off. But it ended up being a bit confusing.

Something VM will become famous for in season 2 ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-09-10 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh oh. Just started that one.

I used to be an ardent Logan/Veronic shipper, but I've cooled down recently so you wont get any "zOMG! How can you say there were no signs! Are you BLIIIIND??@*#@*$" ect. Because some fangirls can be rabid.

Anyways, I'm glad you liked Veronica Mars. I agree with the total lack of emphasis on the murder weapon. It was a glass ashtray that Aaron breifly wiped and threw into the pool. It should have still had blood and fingerprints on it. Why was that not looked into? Also, in S2 another object is used to frame a character and I was all O_O??

I think Veronica's mother was used to 1) add sympathy/strength to Veronica's character 2)bring Veronica and Keith closer 3)bring Logan/Veronica together over losing their mothers 4)add element of mystery to relationship with Jake/Keith/Duncan (sex with my...brother???who's my daddy??)

Also, I agree that they ALL need therapy. Remember Duncan's pills?? His avoidance of all issues? How he stands idly by? But then Logan has a huge temper and massive parental issues. I don't believe he would ever hit a woman, but by the treatment from his father, I think he relies on violence too much.

Veronica herself, also is addicted to revenge. It was commented on by Meg in "Like A Virgin" and brought up again in "Hot Dogs". It's one of the few things I dislike about S1 Veronica.....now S2 Veronica; don't get me started.....her whole "quest for normal" pissed me off.

Hope you enjoy S2!!!!!!

Heh heh heh.

Well, I'm liking the show. Don't think I'll really be a shipper though. Eh, half the shows I watch I don't ship a thing.

Yeah, seemed like a really quick wipe-job. It would have totally been public knowledge.

Right right right. They're both kinda scary at times. Duncan scares me more usually since he keeps everything so bottled up - seems like the type to explode one day. Where Logan's more just full of hot air.

Veronica herself, also is addicted to revenge. It was commented on by Meg in "Like A Virgin" and brought up again in "Hot Dogs". It's one of the few things I dislike about S1 Veronica.....

Yeah.

now S2 Veronica; don't get me started.....her whole "quest for normal" pissed me off.

Haven't really run across that aspect yet. But then I'm only on disk 2.

Hope you enjoy S2!!!!!!

I am so far!
