A couple week break and I'm back to it.
Well, thanks to babbling at
manticoran for a while, while I still have no plot for the 1st sequel to the DW fic, I have a plan of attack. So now I have to start watching old Who. Horrors! ;) Am going to go hunting for a story that has good "unexpected aftermath" potential. Much like "The Long Game." I'm guessing there are quite a few stories that could go that way. May have to actually sign up for Netflix...
ETA: Have been also pondering - just when does plagiarism become plagiarism? I had an idea for the third story I'm working on, but
manticoran pointed out a fic that has a somewhat similar plot. The problem is that in sci fi, *so* many basic plots are done over and over and over. I mean, what I had been plotting, I know had been done in an SG-1 fic years ago. And it wouldn't suprise me if there were multiple fics in multiple fandoms with that plot. But *of course* it would be my take on it. My words. My having the characters interact/react in my way. The problem is that I usually try to bend over backwards to put out something original. But with this whole new "actually having a plot" thing, I'm finding that just about everything has been done before in some way. My Inertia fic? Seriously doubt there was a single original idea in there (okay, maybe the thing with the void ship?). But it wasn't that I read tons of fics and then picked and chose what I wanted to write. I had pretty well shunned reading any Who fic while writing. But I *know* the concepts are repeatedly done in D/R fic.
For all you who write plot fic, do you just have to let go of originality of the basic premise? And just try to make the plot your own?
ETA2: Also in the sequel, I would so dearly love to do the Jack immortality thing. Basically because I would *kill* to see some Rose angst after realizing she was involved in doing that to Jack, and I have my serious doubts we'll ever get to see that in canon. However, I'm really not sure I can do it in my fic without it being a cheesy "oh, by the way..." thing. For sure I couldn't do the kind of immortality thing that they've got going in Torchwood - the insta-heal - because Jack would have 1) known about it and 2) said *something* about it in my fic. So that leaves the 3rd strand DNA thing I did to Rose, which was just so handy in explaining why you didn't see any change in Rose in S2. :D Of course, that has problems of its own. In my fic, I said the Rose change was due a *lot* to the TARDIS, and the fact that the TARDIS is just *so* close to the Doctor. But not sure how I could explain Jack within the context of what I've written. An accident, maybe? I suppose in DW you do see unintended fallout. And that was the theme I was looking for with the old Who story. Basically the story of what happens after "The End." Not that it will all be angsty. Like
manticoran has told me, I just cannot stop myself from writing the Doctor and Rose all cute. *PATS THEM*
ETA3: Oh, right. I'd also have the "legend" to contend with in my fic, which made no mention of Jack. Hmm. Just so not thinking I can do this. BAH. And since I'm blathering on, when I watched RotC again on Friday, I realized I had completely forgotten about Mickey's AU grandmother. Of course, I wasn't the only one since they brought her up and then promptly ignored her. But I'll have to have Mickey go visit her.

I do too! Issues!!
Maybe he's in one of the later-written sections? After the Doctor left? Not relevant until later? *grasping at straws*
Heh.
I was just a tad annoyed that one of Mickey's stated reasons for staying was for his grandma, and then in the end, he and Jake are just, whoops! Of to gay Paree to take out the Cybermen! With no mention of fixing poor Grannie's steps so she doesn't TRIP AND KILL HERSELF?
I KNOW.
Anyway. He should definitely visit Grandma. It'd make a good excuse to get rid of him temporarily if you needed to.
See, when I eventually have Rose and the Doctor go back to the AU (to visit Jackie for *that* whole showdown) I was going to have Jake go back with them to visit a sister or something. Guess Mickey will be coming along too. :D Seriously, last Friday it was a "well, shit!" moment of self-mocking. :D
