Chopping broccoli...chopping broccoli...

So apparently there's this "Broccoli Test" going around where you can put it to your pairing to see if they pass. Basically, it's, in essence, wandering into a grocery store and being able to non-verbally communicate "we need broccoli" to the other person without actually pointing at broccoli.

See, Jack and Sam of SG-1? I'd think they've got this nailed and would actually be quite scary when it comes to this. Probably a lot of it would be from all those years in the field where you *couldn't* talk to communicate some of the time.

The Doctor and Rose, on the other hand? While there was quite a bit of non-verbal stuff going on between them in S2, you still had miscommunication. Even during the *verbal* moments. :D Of course, they would then amusingly proceed to bitch at each other about the failure, even in front of a monster. "YOU SAID BLUE!" "I SAID NOT BLUE!" This is really part of what amuses me about them - some of the time they're completely in sync and other times on opposite wavelengths where they blink at each other. :D

"Carrots? Bleh. Rose, where's the broccoli?"

"Broccoli? You never said anything about broccoli."

"Well, you were all the way across the market and since I'm not allowed to do the telepathy thing with you..."

"Right. Stay out of my head, thanks."

"...I gave you that 'we're out of broccoli' sign."

"Doctor, you raised an eyebrow. That could mean anything from 'I'd like some broccoli' to 'I get the odd feeling the universe will implode in thirty seconds.'"

"Yeah, but this time it was the broccoli instead of impending doom."

Heh. The times I've seen this test before running through the SG-1 slash community, they mostly seem to think Sam and Jack would fail it miserably.

Cake's better, anyway. :)

And Jack and Daniel would pass with flying colors? :D

Actually, I wonder which pair (even in a non-ship context) would be the best at the non-verbal communication. Sam and Daniel often seem on a similar wavelength. And I think Teal'c gets Jack most the time, but doesn't want to admit it. Heh heh.

Cake is good.

See, I tend to think that by the end of season 7 or 8, or whenever SG-1 stopped equaling Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c, they *all* could've passed the broccoli test with each other. Which has some scary implications, but honestly. You go through that much together for that long a time? You're going to know when they want broccoli and when they want some C-4 to blow up Apophis. *nods*

*snickers*

And yeah, towards the end of their team run, they could have all done that. :D

They probably even had down the 452 different *kinds* of Teal'c eyebrow raises...

AND what all the many variations of his "indeed"s mean. *nods sagely*

Exactly!

Or maybe it was the broccoli of impending doom!

;-)

Oh, that Ten eyebrow raise - you just never can tell. ;D

Jack / Sam / Broccoli

A Menage a broccoli!!!!

I can just see the non-verbal communication of what to do with the broccoli.

**visions dancing in my head**

"YOU SAID BLUE!" "I SAID NOT BLUE!"

You know, I completely forgot about this when I forwarded that to you, mostly because that episode gripes me because it was one of the last episodes we had with Rose, and it was Rose-lite! *cough* But yeah. Sometimes they were totally in sync, and sometimes, the Doctor would think something was totally, completely obviously obvious, and Rose would very much disagree. They're so cute. *smushes them*

Totally. Plus if you're only doing 13 episodes in a season, you do NOT need a main-character-lite episode in the first place. I have enough problems with feeling the need to pad out a 22 episode season with a clips show.

But yeah. Sometimes they were totally in sync, and sometimes, the Doctor would think something was totally, completely obviously obvious, and Rose would very much disagree. They're so cute. *smushes them*

Uh huh! :D Think I've sent you the fic snip of the Doctor and Rose getting into it about time theory. They start out the scene utterly in sync and doing the non-verbal. But by the end... *snorts*

Well, anything for the original SG-1 is going to be skewed, because they all clicked so well with each other. Teal'c would understand the others' desires for broccoli and respond that he would retrieve it with a simple eyebrow raise; Daniel might talk for an hour about how broccoli entered society, but he'd be putting it in his cart while doing so; and Sam and Jack would just efficiently buy it, though Jack would joke with everyone about how he was definitely not buying broccoli and they'd all have to settle for beer and steak instead.

New SG-1 would probably have more problems -- Vala would buy oysters instead, for their aphrodisiac properties; while Cameron would buy way too much broccoli, in an attempt to fit in.

BWAHAHAHAHA! This is brilliant! :D

AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA. That's awesome. :D

AWWWW! The Doctor totally would be thinking to himself: "How could she NOT know which eyebrow-raise it was?...OOH, JAM!"

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
TOTALLY!! :D

jack and sam would indeed pass.
all of sg1 would.

the Doctor and Rose might now, but they'd be adorable while failing and that's better than passing.

SG-1 would totally pass. :D

And you're right - it's really almost more adorable when they fail and start flailing at each other. Mwah!
