Where were you on 1/31/07?

Pic of the day.

Only thing that would have put the icing on the cake with this shot was if he had a gun pointed at it. Mwah.

Okay, I understand the need for caution at times, but these were signs. With D batteries. That had apparently been up for 3 weeks. (At least according to this AP article.) And now they've arrested the people who put them there? But remember, we're all living in this "post 9/11 [OMGWTFWEREALLGONNADIE] world."

ETA: Have been reading more articles because I'm now finding this fascinating. Apparently some are saying "not all publicity is good publicity" and that this will end up hurting the show. Uh...I rather have the feeling that ATHF's target audience (males 18-24) are for the most part laughing their asses off at this.

ETA2: Okay, Wil Wheaton and I are on the total same wavelength. Here and here.

Is it bad that I laughed at this story and mostly just went "meh" in my total uncaring?

I think just about everyone in my office here in Cambridge, MA was laughing about it too, especially when they "identified the hoax".

But unfortunately it wasn't funny for all the people stuck on the highways that they shut down for hours - our CTO was stuck in traffic for over an hour when they shut down the main Interstate running north-south through Boston. That was just a ridiculous over-reaction.

Oh good grief. Again, they should have been able to identify that there was no threat *way* quicker.

You'd think they'd have figured it out by the time they encountered the second or third one.

In their defence, the one attached to the bottom of the I93 on-ramp was the first one they found, and was right over the top of a bus station, but even so. Did it really take them THREE WEEKS to notice it was there?

Not only was this an overreaction, it was also an indictment of the "security" measures given that they sat around for ages and nobody said or did anything.

Good Lord, poor CTO. That *is* ridiculous.

Isn't the general mood of the country so nice? I mean, I can understand the worry, but it should be tempered by some kind of common sense, right? Surely.

Well, I maintain my stubbornness. I will have a sense of humor, darn it! I will not duck my head in fear! (I guess that makes me a good target, huh?)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Common sense? What's that?

[identity profile] geneeste.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding.

Especially after someone in the bomb squad must have realized that these things simply weren't bombs.

I will have a sense of humor, darn it!

Oh I agree the thing is hysterical in retrospect, but the way Boston and the State of MA are going on about it, they really need to lighten up. I mean, they've arrested the guys that put them up, are charging them, it's a total circus. Literally.

Yeah, things have gotten/are getting out of hand and no one seems to have the ability of telling people to stop and take a deep breath.

Nope.
