Dead men tell no tales...
*thrusts* *parries*
Ha ha!
*skewers a ghost pirate*
Oh yeah. I just got back from seeing Pirates of the Caribbean! Okay, no spoilers outside of the cut, but I *gotta* share this quote:
"You sat on an island for three days and drank rum?"
"Welcome to the Caribbean."
Ha! Actually, that sounds pretty dang good...
*Anyway* - total popcorn flick (simple plot) but a *lot* of fun! Very silly but not *too* silly...if you know what I mean. Orlando Bloom was just the best as Will Turner! Those puppy dog eyes! I've seen reviews saying it's too long. I didn't get that feeling at all - maybe because I was having too much fun being in that world.
It would be a fun movie even if you've never been on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland/world/universe/whatever, but *way* fun if you know the ride. They actually matched some of the scenes to the ride. Not that they did it in every scene - it was like turning a corner and all of a sudden discovering another gem. Let's see if I can remember...
First off - young Elizabeth singing the Pirates of the Caribbean song! *Great* way to start that movie!! Started grinning then and don't think I stopped the rest of the film.
Of course the dog in the jail scene. The whistling even sounded the same - I think I remember hearing the Pirates ride upgraded to a digital soundtrack not too long ago - wouldn't surprise me at all if they borrowed it for the movie. It sounded dead on. Well, that whole shot was set up to look like that part of the ride. 'Course, everyone in my So. Cal. audience was laughing because we've all been there.
The pirate town - lots of ride elements there. The redhead! ("We want the redhead!") There was the guy sitting on a barrel and drinking. The guy lying on the pigs.
The skeleton crew, tattered sails and Barbossa drinking the wine and it going through him.
The parrot saying, "Dead men tell no tales."
The treasure room - the mound stacked up in the cave reminded me of the ride - and seeing the gold in the water. Makes me want to reach out and grab it every time I'm on the ride. ;)
I feel like I'm forgetting something. I may need to see this again! :)

I've always been a Johnny Depp fan. Well, I haven't seen *everything* he's been in. Maybe I just like the twisted Tim Burton movies he's been in. :)

So fun! Think I just decided to see it again - probably next week. :)
I can't wait for it to come out here in Australia. I found it interesting that in the internet trailer Orlando is high in the credits but when it shows the actual credit info only Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush were mentioned - nice career profile increase thanks to LofR {g}
No kidding! And looking at his IMDB page, looks like he's pretty much a newcomer to film/tv. And such a great actor in LotR and now this!

The guys at work keep talking about it too. Love to see grown men get excited over a movie. Isn't it made by Walt Disney?

Yep - Disney movie. But it is PG-13 and not for the little, little kiddies.
