DW: The Tomb of the Cybermen (Two, Jamie, Victoria)
- My first real Two episode (before it was just The Three Doctors and The Five Doctors) and so I'm getting my first real look at Two. Right now I want to pinch his cheeks. He reminds me a bit of Eight for some reason. I think it's because he got off a couple of snarky remarks when you were least expecting it - kind of like Eight in the audio play I listened to. I'm gonna have to get used to the scaredy-cat streak in him though. But at least that aspect to his personality wasn't as bad or as cartoony as I was expecting after seeing comments about him.
- Jamie and Victoria are adorable. (Although there was a bit of adorable overkill when they did a closeup of Victoria giving a speech where she did the big eyes of adorableness.) I'm kind of amused they made Victoria change, but Jamie's still running around in a kilt. Okay, a kilt is way more practical than a poofy dress, but you'd think he'd want to get into
pantstrousers due to all the running around. - I've heard the "they sleep in my mind" quote before about the Doctor thinking of his family. But I misunderstood the context. When I saw that before, I was thinking that it meant the Doctor didn't like to think of his family as dead, but rather sleeping. But the whole line is really about him telling Victoria that you won't always have that persistent loss in your mind. He was saying that he needed to bring the memory of his family forward in his head - to really actively think about them if he wanted to remember. But the rest of the time the memory was dormant.
- For some reason, I was amused to see the Doctor snuggled up to a hose while he was sleeping. I don't know why! Maybe because it made it look like a security blanket or something.
- I didn't realize that this wasn't the first Cybermen episode, otherwise I probably would have watched the other one first. From the discussions, I gather the first episode is The Moonbase.
- Can I admit I found the Cybermen in this episode to be quite creepy? Especially when they first spoke. If I had seen this as a kid, I would have had nightmares for weeks! There were many similar things to the AU!Cybermen in New Who like removing emotion as a weakness and a CyberController. But these Cybermen were apparently a different race? And when they converted a human, he didn't then look like a Cyberman. He was just mentally altered and I think they gave him a robo arm. You know, I think I find the Cybermen way more scary than the Daleks. The Daleks are batshit (and roll so are therefore cute), but the Cybermen are emotionless and will strip away your identity in a heartbeat. I think the loss of identity is way more scary a thing to me than death.
- For being "logictitians," those two were dumb as hell.

I think Two is pretty adorable, although I admit to being surprised at how panicky he can get.

Yeah, I suppose. I guess I just look at anything like that - kilt, skirt, dress and think, "don't you want to be more comfortable?" :D

I know - for someone who doesn't die, it's a bit perplexing.
