Taking a break since my brain hurts.

The Mind Robber (Two, Jamie, Zoe)
  • Oh man. The writers were seriously on drugs. Okay, it was supposed to be an Alice in Wonderland take-off, but still. Unicorns, Rapunzel, Medusa... HIGH. As little British kites.

  • I'm still calling Zoe "Gidget." She's getting a bit *too* perky. Although I was amused - I think she's supposed to be from the year 2002 or something? Nice sparkly spandex!

  • Thought it was interesting they had to use a different actor for Jamie for part of the episode. At least they made it make sense. But they must have been running on *tight* production schedules back then if they had to go that route when the actor got sick.

  • I've decided no one is allowed to reuse names ever again. EVER. Well, you see, he's the Master, but not *the* Master... It's like that Gweneth/Gwen thing. STOP IT.

The Claws of Axos (Three, Jo)
  • Overall kind of a 'meh' episode, but there were a lot of fun elements to it. Like when the Master started fiddling with the Doctor's TARDIS - okay, yeah. He was doing it because he wanted to get off Earth. But his attitude was funny - "oh bloody hell! what'd he do to this thing?!" I like to think that *all* Time Lords, even evil ones, are supernerds where they can't help but to instantly crawl underneath a console and start tinkering.

  • So they arrested the Doctor and decided to hold him *in the lab*. Ahahahahahahaha! And the Doctor makes instant use of the particle accelerator to fiddle with a mineral, causing *ahem* unexpected expansion. "Imprisoned" is really a relative term to the Doctor.

  • So the Master and the Doctor start working together and immediately begin squirreling away particle accelerator parts into the Doctor's TARDIS. So also, *all* Time Lords are shoplifting packrats. American dude: Um, why exactly are they doing that? Jo: *shrugs*

  • Speaking of Jo - poor Jo. Pure wallpaper in this episode.

  • Think I saw some very wild speculation that this Mr. Saxon (think he's either the new PM or in some position of power in The Runaway Bride) could be related to the Axons. Eh. They weren't all that terribly interesting of villains. Although I wonder if this was the first time anyone's ever thought of the living spaceship concept. And I'm sure the set design was extremely original when this first aired (think Lexx.)

  • I love it when they do - or try to do - American accents. It's so CUTE! :)

  • I didn't *really* think the Doctor was abandoning Earth to save his own skin, however, it was apparent that he thought he'd be able to save Earth *and* get the hell away from the planet. *SNORTS* Poor Doctor. The Time Lords have clearly inflicted RTDitus on him. It's a wonder he still hangs out on Earth a lot after his forced exile on it.

  • My Three love continues. He's just so snifty.

Ooh, I didn't realise there was a DW character with my name! Although, I am definitely not overly perky :D

There is! And I don't think *anyone's* that perky. Not even Ten.

Except Mel. Who's kinda in a category by herself in that regard.

Oh man. I kinda forgot about her. I rather have the feeling I'm gonna need some vodka to fully enjoy the two Six and Mel episodes. (Although, I *am* looking forward to more Six and his "fuck the hell off!" attitude. Mwah! Time Lord PMS.)

Both combos -- Six and Peri, then Six and Mel -- can be really entertaining. But lay in plenty of vodka for his entire era anyway. You'll need it to deal with the attempts at plot. :-/

Okay, now I'm actually getting bouncy about this. :D Weird plots, cranky!Doctor, screaming companions, and VODKA. I'm gonna need to do a few of these some weekend.

*BOING*

Awesome ep summary, as usual. Sorry to be all DW nerdy about this, but I worked with a guy who puts all us fangirls to shame. He was a DW encyclopedia, old and new, and you know, once you've heard it you can't unhear it. RE: the production schedule, apparently they filmed EVERY week of the year back then. Guess they didn't have union reps ;D. I guess that's why DT never gets snarky about the whole nine month filming thing. he's just so glad he gets a couple of months off to go to Sardinia, and play an italian man-whore, and be more popular than everyone else in RSC etc. *g*

Man, that sounds like a brutal filming schedule. Back before unions and agents and contracts, I guess.

God I know. During the summer shows almost all the episodes seem to have someone missing (for various spurious reasons) because they're off on their hols. The BBCs Classic Who section (www.bbc.co.uk/doctor who and click the Classic Who link) is an absolute MINE of information. I really wish they'd do the same for new who. Anyway it seems to have been collected from a couple of Who guides and someone at the BBC who knew all the gossip. It's not just episode reviews, they're double entendres, goofs, continuity and random bitch fight of the week info!

It would be sooooo interesting to hear about that stuff about New Who. Maybe in 10 years someone will write a tell-all. :D

[identity profile] yourebrilliant.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It would HAVE to be RTD. Surely no one else could do bitching and whistle blowing quite as well. Possibly with DT there to back him up ;D.
