Those in the DW know - I know I had to watch the Romana I episodes in order, but is there a need to watch Romana II in order? I had originally planned on doing that, but DVD availability makes this difficult. Besides, I kinda like jumping around between different eras, unless I know something should be watched in a certain order. (Especially since I'm in a "gimme more Three!" mood at the moment.)

Good thing I came into work today. Had The Leisure Hive, the 2nd half of Slings & Arrows and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy waiting for me. :)

ETA: Totally random. Anyone have one of those microwave grills? Like this thing? Wondering if they work well.

Not that I can think of, except that you'll probably want to do so with the last three, what's referred to as the "E-space trilogy." (Full Circle, State of Decay and Warrior's Gate.) It isn't a strict arc like the Key to Time, but I think her decision to stay behind makes most sense with those three together.

I have absolutely no knowledge of microwave grills, but it sounds intriguing.

Ooooh, thanks! I'd been tempted to skip straight to the last one, but I'll do those in order.

Yeah. Kind of like a microwave/toaster oven combo.

It's a complete shock to the Doctor, of course. But he's the Doctor. He never sees it coming unless he's ready for them to leave...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Off in his own little world.

And then there was Mel. I don't think even Mel's *brain* saw that one coming. Five minutes after the TARDIS leaves... "Wait. I'm on some ship with a guy who probably hasn't had a bath in weeks, and it's not the *good* kind of grunge... What the HELL?" And then, of course, the screaming.

*snerk* There is just So Much Wrong with how that poor girl was handled from beginning to end.

I just finished listening to "The One Doctor," with her and Six. Nearly had a car accident when she matter-of-factly explained to someone that he would know when she was frightened because she would "scream the paint off the walls." A bit earlier, she had started to tell the same person the "funny story" of how she wound up travelling with the Doctor, but of course they were interrupted by Deadly Peril before she got past "I was working as a computer programmer in Brighton," which is very nearly all we know about her.

Mind you, we mustn't forget that however the hookup happened, it was with Six. Which makes her bopping off with Glitz, if not exactly comprehensible, at least slightly less random. Maybe it was just time to trade in hygiene for amiability... ;-D

HA! She could! She really, really could! First time I saw her let loose, I did a very good impression of Dan Ackroyd in Ghostbusters with the cigarette hanging out of the mouth. (http://digitalius.csmalecki.com/displayimage.php?pos=-10485) Only not with the cigarette.

Oh, of course she was interrupted. Heh. Maybe by that time they'd thought there wasn't much mystery left to the audience as far as the Doctor, and so...companion mystery?

AFAIK, Bonnie still has that range, although thankfully it wasn't demonstrated on the audio. I really might have had an accident! (She also just sounded more grown-up in general, although she seemed to get better at capturing her just-graduated-from-child-starhood self as it wend along.)

I'm no slouch in that department m'self, but DAYum. It still boggles my mind every time I hear her let fly.

Someone on one of my opera lists mentioned seeing her as Mabel in Penzance. It's common to put an E (same note as the end of the Phantom of the Opera title song, for an easy reference) in the cadenza at the end of "Poor Wand'ring One." Apparently Bonnie's involved an A. Sustained. THREE FULL STEPS HIGHER. The woman is a mutant, pure and simple.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy crap, man! I think during my singing days I could only hit the E, but I'm definitely an alto. (Although, let's not mention the one year they decided to make me a second soprano - but when you actually make it into the elite college choir, you don't go up to the director and quibble about parts. But OY, man.)

Sustained A. WOW.

Ah, the difference between range and tessitura. Another person to whom I don't have to explain that at least half of sopranos don't have that E, but there are mezzos who do, and how that really does make sense. *g*

I'm having fun in Pirates and all, but Kate? (Which, oddly, Bonnie did in that production before taking over Mabel. She was replaced by Sarah Brightman. So there's precedent for paying no attention to voice type in casting this show...) 98% chest voice, baby. And she's got me doing the alto line in the ensemble stuff. And considering me the "section leader." I'm like, dude, I'm all for proving that first sopranos can read music too, but come ON! %-}

Heh heh. Yeah.

Oh, man! I'm all for stretching yourself, but there's only so much wiggle room to those breakpoints.

HA!! You know, you might have a point.

Ooooh, S&A's three season finales are my three favorite episodes. You're still on season one, yes? Mmmm, backstory in that finale. Lots of Geoffrey and Ellen interaction, and some flashbacks. My icon comes from that episode.

*squees generally*

Yeah, I'm still on S1. Netflix had some delay on that disk for some reason, but I've got it now. WOO!

This is going to make me want to get S2, isn't it?

Woo!

This is going to make me want to get S2, isn't it?

Well, they weren't sure when S1 ended that they would get more seasons, so they didn't end it in a cliffhanger or anything. They tied up most of the loose ends. (Good thing, since I think it took...two more years to get a second season? S1 aired in 2003, and S2 in 2005, I think.) But IMO, I can't imagine knowing that there more of this series exists and not taking steps to watch it ASAP, so...yeah, it'll probably make you want to watch S2. ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I finished it! YAY! It was excellent!! I'm gonna have to get S2. :D
icepixie: (Assumpta grin)

[personal profile] icepixie 2007-03-11 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! :) (I kind of think S2 is my favorite. Maybe. Oh, I'm not sure...they're all so excellent in their own ways.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooh! I'm actually glad to hear that, since sometimes if a show hits a high note on the first season, it only goes downhill.
icepixie: (Maggie/Joel mite kiss)

[personal profile] icepixie 2007-03-11 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm-hmm. This one definitely doesn't go downhill. Now, season three is different--much more serious, and kind of painful to watch in some places, though still with a good dose of black humor--but still up the the same level of quality, and the finale makes all the pain worth it in a big catharsis of amazing.

(BTW, did you ever watch Forever Knight? If so, you will be greatly amused by a certain aspect of S2. :))

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No, never was into Forever Knight.

Ah, never mind then. The lead from FK guest stars in much of S&A S2, which amuses me as an FK fan, and also lends credence to my theory that there are only about thirty Canadian actors, and they all guest star on each others' shows. *g*
