Had another bout of "dear God, I really am that obsessively nuts" and put my last DW post into the crazy filter (since [livejournal.com profile] manticoran always comes around later and thwacks me if I delete it outright if she hasn't had a chance to read it yet.)

I've discovered the joy of iPod versions of episodes. They're wee and I don't care about screen size! [insert sex joke] And...I'd get these on DVD if they were available! But they aren't! I totally would! Take a look at my Netflix history where every last DVD's been/is in my queue! *eyes BBC internet legal swat team* I've bought books! And DVDs! And...I'll be buying a Dalek plushie this summer! Leave me alone!

Can I be put on your crazy filter? I like your takes on old and new DW fandom.

Thanks or, if not, I will survive. :)

Sure! And thanks! :)

It was basically set up to spare the non-DW people on my flist, who *still* get an earful. Lot of D/R babble goes there. *adds*

Okay, for a second, I just pictured the BBC legal swat team breaking down your door, and you holding up a Dalek plushie to ward them off.

Sorry, random!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHA! Sic 'em, Gunther! Okay, maybe not Gunther. I'm still trying to name my future Dalek. Charles? James?

ARTHUR!

Good name for a Dalek.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder how big the Dalek will be? Don't think the site said. Suppose it'd be too much to ask for a foot-high Dalek. It'll probably be 2 inches, which is *much* harder to sit and watch TV with...

[identity profile] calyx.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I didn't think that post was crazy at all. More straight analysis than crazy talk. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's not so much that I thought it was off-the-wall, but rather that I was being *way* too nitpicky analytical. Again! :D Kind of like when I ramble for five pages about Time Lord sex...

[identity profile] calyx.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok. Now, is that what meta is? Analysis? I'm always confused.

Btw, Time Lord sex would be mad hot.

Yeah, pretty much. It's analyzing something, whether it's a character, an aspect of the show, an aspect of fandom, etc.

Btw, Time Lord sex would be mad hot.

In a dusty-old-senator way... ;)

I know you don’t know me from Adam, but is there any chance you could add me to the filter? You’re one of the few people whose Doctor Who meta doesn’t drive me crazy. (If you’d rather not, that’s all right, too.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not? :) You had me at 'non-crazy meta...' ;)

[personal profile] shaela 2007-03-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks muchly! :-)

(since manticoran always comes around later and thwacks me if I delete it outright if she hasn't had a chance to read it yet.)

*laughs self sick* Yes, that's right, missy. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, either, since I've been away from the computer most of the day.

About the tininess of the iPod... if you have a cable with the right connections (RCA on one end and something to plug into the iPod on the other) you can plug it into the TV and watch it on a big screen. It's what I do. :-)

See? And there would have been this email of "WHAT DID YOU SAY??? *SHAKES*" I'm now well-trained.

Well, I don't actually *have* an iPod, but I had no idea you could do that!! HMMMM.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 01:54 am (UTC)(link)

*giggles* Good girl. *pats on head*

Well, I don't actually *have* an iPod, but I had no idea you could do that!! HMMMM.

What have you been using to play them, then, iTunes? Because IIRC, if you double-click on the small picture, it will widen into a nice big one. As to the iPod - I don't use one either, so I'm not 100% that it can be done. But the Zen Creative MP3 player I use can do it, so I imagine the iPod could, too. It's how I watch things I download, as I like watching them on a TV rather than the computer, and it means I can watch in more than one location.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I just have been using Quicktime. And I *could* make it bigger, but the picture quality gets worse the bigger you make it. But I'd much rather watch it on TV...

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
What I've found with my player is that if it looks good there, it'll look good when I plug it into the TV. Some stuff still doesn't look good on the player (including, unfortunately, a concert of Barrowman at the Kennedy Center), but most stuff does.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
That's one thing nice about non-HD TVs - resolution on them is actually pretty bad, so you can get away with a LOT. I made a video for my dad's birthday last year - on the computer it looked a bit iffy, but looked FAB on TV.

[identity profile] littledivinity.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
See, this is what I don't QUITE understand about downloading TV shows. If it's a show that's been offair for a long time, or even a show that has a VERY low probability of being released on DVD (like how Road to Avonlea is released in Canada and is astronomically expensive WITHOUT the added cost of the shipping), then really, where is the harm? If there are no other means of requiring it...then, where's the problemo?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I'm sure an entertainment lawyer would be *happy* to give us the legal reasons. But I have the same problem with MST3K: The Movie. For some reason it's out of print and has been out of print for ages. They only way you can get a DVD is used, which goes for $100 or so because of the rarity. I would *gladly* exchange my hard-earned cash for a shiny new DVD of this movie to love and call my own, preferably with extras, but noooooooooo.
