So yesterday the new S3 trailer came out and there was KISSING between the Doctor and Martha. [insert standard flailing] And of course, I'm instantly thinking it's not KISSING but they're pulling something like from New Earth, which was last year's opener.
Yeah. They are.
It's supposedly the Doctor doing some sort of "genetic transfer" (um, yeah. it's called saliva.) and there will be another kiss at the end where Martha gives the saliva back. Or something. Which - I'm so not surprised that it's something else in light of the whole "unrequited" spoiler. Plus, they just MET. *mutters*
I was rolling my eyes yesterday and I'm rolling my eyes today, since clearly with what they chose for this promo, there's this whole thing where they're feeling the need to jam sex/UST/romance into this Rose-shaped void.
Wow.
Is this trip really necessary? Really? Really really? You *really* couldn't have a Companion in there where sex wasn't an issue? Just, you know, time traveling? Oh right, I forgot. David Tennant makes every woman (and most men) drop to the ground in instant orgasm at the sight of him. Silly me.

So not helpful, but I'd be very amused to see the Doctor visit a planet where most people would have such orgasms at the sight of him. Could be a good fic. They'd want to capture, 'cause orgasms yay! but they wouldn't be able to very well. And the look on his face would be great.
Erm, sorry.

Townspeople: "Oh, god, oh god, oh goooooooooooooooood."
DW: o_O
Oh, man, to have Jack around....
Awesomest thing EVER.

While the Doctor would be freaking out, Jack would be grinning!

Rose is no longer on the show, so I am not sure exactly what they want to win.
Have the feeling it's canon proof that Rose was just another in a long line and in no way special.
And if there is currently a fandom war going on over the two companions, it must be in places I don't frequent.
I haven't seen it. Yet. But it'll come.
But my problem isn't really with *Martha* per se. Hell, I don't even know Martha yet. She could be amazingly awesome or annoying or somewhere in the middle. I've got no clue. My cynicism is in the apparent direction they're headed. The whole concept just makes me tired.

Hee I used to think it was a rough turf, but after being in primetime I can honestly say that soap fandom is made of kittens in comparison.

Oh yeah I know. A character can be great while the stories are not. Oh well I am sticking to my squee.

Someone's said it to me before, but I now really starting to wonder if RTD knows *how* to write a relationship that doesn't involve romance/ust/sex.

I don't like this whole kissing thing. *pouts*

I still am excited about S3 because everything else I've heard sounds awesome...but yeah, that's a wee bit of a dampener. Oy!
no subject
Totally. I've been watching all this Old Who now, and I'd like more of that, please!
Does RTD have some sort of idea that because the Doctor never snogged any of his companions in the old series that he better make up for lost time now by kissing them ALL?
Or maybe he thinks he snogged them all - off camera. Or everybody *wanted* to snog everybody... Or something. This sorta has me eying School Reunion now.

I still may wait and marathon it all at once at the end. Maybe. Still not sure.

It doesn't strike me as fair to Rose -- Ten had a lot of kissing scenes, I sort of have an odd urge to see Rose flirt with someone other than Ten during season 2.

Well, from what I read, it was all part of some sort of genetic transfer that needed to happen. I just can't picture the Doctor going on a snogging rampage. :D
I have really no clue about Martha. On the one hand, I don't want to condemn her because she isn't Rose, but on the other hand, I don't want to swing too far the other way and blindly love her because I'm worried about condemning her.
The problem is, I don't think I can be impartial at this point anymore. Bah.

Yeah. Of course, she did it to him in S1 with Mickey, Adam and Jack. Not that there were kissing scenes, but that whole jealous thing.

When I first saw the trailer I was really shaking with annoyance, not because Martha was there but because they could have done this in season 2 but they didn't. They could have written Rose and the Doctor coming into conflict and snarking and yet still so connected, but didn't.
Somehow, season 1 felt bigger than season 2 (for me) despite the parallel universes I felt that it didn't have the same scope as season 1 did and now, it seemed like they were saving their best stories for season 3. So, I blame the writers.
Oh, yes, I love the Doctor being all jealous in season 1, sort of missed it on season 2. And, I actually sort of like the idea that in season 1 (before Jack) Rose was Kirk to Nine's 'Spock'.

AMEN.

Yeah, they could have had more of that. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head was the very mild "we..uh, run!" "that's it?!" from Tooth and Claw and then the "you said blue!!" "I said not blue!!" from L&M. I liked it when they bitched at each other. :D

Yeah, I'd agree on that. S1 did seem to be "bigger" in many ways. Maybe part of it was because S2 came off as "lighter" since the Doctor and Rose were in happy mode?

Yeah, me too. I can understand turnabout being fair play so they got in some Rose jealousy, but let's face it, the Doctor does jealous better. :D

HA!!

I think that's it. And, that the writers forgot to do... character building. They did well with Jackie and Mickey and seemed to have forgotten to do the same for Rose. I like the happy bouncy stuff but they could have done more.
I love it whenever they bitched at each other, it's always fun to watch. Plus, I now have this thing where I want Rose to throw a show at the Doctor our of pure annoyance. Or to shut him up.
"...and the main lesson for the tenth trinity of the trinity of gladofollapagos is that there should be more trinities in the trinity zone at the edge of--"
"Doctor!"
"--that galaxy in SOA, where five out of ten inhabitants are members of--"
"Doctor!"
"--the very sacred order of trinity and the church of the clown vagabond, which actually, if you didn't know about it could possibly, possibly be me--"
At which point Rose would grab her trainer and throw it at his head.
"What was that for?"
"Would you stop gabbing on, for once and get us out of the cage before we get eaten by the alien monster?"
"Now, Rose what did I say about discrimination?"
The other trainer proved to be as aerodynamic as its twin, who knew?
heh.
Oh, you know Rose has a pretty boy at every port, probably have Nine going. 'I could have bouncy hair too.' and more loudly, "Honestly, what do you see in those pretty boys? They're sort of... limp wristed the whole lot of them."
Rose would blink at Nine innocently, "Pretty? Really, never noticed."
no subject
Well...I saw it there in S2 for Rose. It was just more subtle. School Reunion, The Girl in the Fireplace and RotC/AoS are coming to mind for her. She got really hammered through there in one way or another and came out stronger, from what I saw. Before those things (including S1) she was more teen!Rose, but after that I saw adult!Rose taking shape.

Bwahahahaha!!!

Hm... barring Girl in the Fireplace, I haven't had much urge to watch School Reunion and RotC/AoS. I did love her quiet maturity in GitF, in RotC I was annoyed that the writers over did Rose's insensitivity to Mickey. In S1 Mickey might not be foremost in her mind but she's always been sensitive to the fact he didn't like being considered an idiot. Defending him a time or two when the Doctor won't stop with the Mickey the Idiot thing.
Oh, but I adored episodes like Impossible Planet/Satan Pit. Those were the episodes I wish they did more. It has character work, it has this moody, mysterious atmosphere discussions on faith and action!Rose!

Yeah, I know that grated a lot of people. I get *why* they did it - so that Mickey would finally be motivated enough to leave - but it was very heavy-handed and clumsy.

Yes! Loved those!! Definitely could have had more of those.

In this day and age epsically in Sci Fi, man or woman companion it wouldn't matter. Sex would still be a part of it.

That is does as does SG-1. But those shows are very much ensable shows. Doctor Who is not. It for the most part is a two person show. If it makes you feel any better I think Rusty has kind of made clear (at least to me) who the OTP in the vers is.
Now your gonna kill me for saying this but I really did like the first episode.
