Planet of Fire (Five, Turlough, Peri)
  • I've now seen the majority of Companions in Who, and I've liked all of them, some more than others. All except...Peri. Even Turlough, who's a weasel, is at least a snarky weasel at times. (Okay, I don't have much use for Adric, but I can take or leave him. And Mel can be amusing when she's not screaming.) But Peri is...Peri is dumb. Really, really, really dumb. And whiny as hell. She complains about *everything* in this horribly grating voice. In the first part of this episode, she decides to swim for shore from a boat. But apparently she didn't remember she couldn't swim, as she starts going down about 5 feet from the boat. And then, and this is the part I'll never forgive her for, Turlough takes off his pants to jump in to save her. Takes off his pants. Turlough. Could have had the Doctor do it, but no. Turlough. There was just no need for that. Other than Peri. *blames*

  • Peri to a robot: You really are some kind of robot?
Me: No, he's a sentient silver hot dog, you NIT.

  • Bit of interesting stuff about Turlough and where he's from. Sounded like they'd never really gotten into his past before. And you knew something was going on – yeah, pretty interesting.

  • And the Master/Kameleon drags Peri off. They'd make a lovely couple. I know *I'd* send a blender.

  • So Turlough's family was on the wrong side of a civil war, and that's how Turlough got exiled to Earth. His father and younger brother got sent to this volcano planet.

  • And another departure, although this one was surprisingly nice. Turlough telling the Doctor he learned from him and was sorry he had to leave, but he'd been pardoned at home. Them shaking hands with the Doctor saying he'd miss him. Very nice.

The Caves of Androzani (Five, Peri)
  • Erm...wow. I'm a bit curious about how this episode came into being. It's not only got the most gunfire I can remember seeing in Who (yes, more than the UNIT eps), but they went to that dark, creepy sexual place that fortunately I've not really seen in Who - old or new. For all the female companions over the years, they've pretty much avoided this kind of storyline from what I remember.

Okay, they *might* have been trying to go for a Phantom of the Opera-type storyline, but that's got its own twisted sexuality thing going for it. Which is what you had here. Even the Doctor poking his face in the middle of those scenes with a "Hello, there!" or other quip in an apparent attempt to diffuse the impact from a writing standpoint, didn't really diffuse anything. And most the time the Doctor (and I don't even know if it was more the Doctor, or Peter Davison just outright not knowing what the hell to do while Nicola was being pawed by S&M leather man) stood there with an, "Erm..." when all this was going down. I'm actually kinda sad this had to be his swan song.

  • You know, I'm thinking that the dramatic saving of Peri at the end would have had more of an impact if it hadn't involved the Doctor milking a bat. *slaps hand over mouth*

  • I'm way too BSG-ingrained, apparently. Because I wanted them to go into the whole androids-looking-like-humans thing WAY more. Like...there were probably Cylons on their planet!!! :D

  • Is it evil and wrong of me to say that Six completely fits into my adopted "companions impact incarnations" theory? Six is in a constant state of being annoyed. I wonder why... (I'm sorry, I just do not like Peri. But 1 out of about 50 isn't bad, right?)

Let's have a poll:

___ Turlough should have let Peri drown
___ Peri should have been tossed in the volcano as a sacrifice
___ The Master should had made his getaway and taken Peri as his love!slave
___ Peri should have just gone home like a good little girl
___ The writers should be shot for even thinking this was a good idea
___ Other, specify _______________________________________________________

OOOH! I vote for Peri/Master and shooting the writers!

I don't know what will be the hardest section to get through. The deluge of reconstructions of the second Doctor or having to listen to Peri constant (and irritating) whining.

Okay, Peri will be the worst! Even being a guy who has an appreciation of the female form (okay, big boobs) Peri's grating voice and constant complaining overcome those two reasons the producers picked her.

You know, a Peri icon would certainly denote complete and utter disgust.

Let's see, where's that fast forward button...

Heh. Just looked up the comments on the first Peri episode I watched.

Not sure if this is just this episode, but Peri's a little bit on the dumb side, no?

*sighs*

See, I thought Mel and Six would be torture, but it really wasn't too bad. Peri and Six is going to be torture.

Peri and Six is going to be torture.

You've never seen any Six and Peri yet?

It's the worst Whine and Cheese of all the Doctors...

I have seen a couple, but I did them when I did the Six and Mel ones. I went in thinking that Mel and Six would be the bad ones...

It's partly because I think Six was the low-end of the Doctor's that I dislike Six and Peri the most. There's almost nothin I truely like about that pair. But I will watch them all... yes I will!

Go watch Twin Dilemma. Six almost succeeds in ridding us of Peri forever. *loves him for that*

OOOOOH! I'm in Netflix limbo at the moment. I may just do that tonight. :D
