- I'd massively spoiled myself for this episode ahead of time, and I was really worried it was going to be a Satan Pit redux. There *were* a few elements that were identical, but it wasn't as bad as I'd thought it might be. "Burn with me" wasn't nearly as scary as "Don't turn around" though. That line still can creep me out.
- "Don't they teach recreational mathematics any more?" HA!! Love it. So very the Doctor. :D
- Heh. Scott Summers-type helmet. Someone's been watching the X-Men.
- It's interesting, in the multitude of repeatable lines in S3, there have been more than a few that Martha has said about the Doctor, that in S1 and S2 the Doctor said about Rose. This time around, "I believe in him."
- I think we just saw the first glimpse of Martha missing her life.
- Wow. Pretty big contrast to the Satan Pit where the Doctor was going on about "Brilliant humans! Amazing! All of you!" and the Doctor jumping into the pit out of faith. This time around we get "Humans! You grab whatever's nearest and bleed it dry!" and the Doctor scared out of his mind. And his look at the end when back in the TARDIS? :( :(
- Now why couldn't Martha have used the comm system to relay the information instead of running all that way?
- All in all, fairly entertaining ep IMO. But I tend to like the more action-oriented eps. Of course, the Doctor's just so, SO lost this series and that part is gut-wrenching.

This episode was no Impossible Planet, though. Or Satan Pit. In those you got creepy as well as this whole spiritual dialog - this was more popcorn. But it did have an interesting faith/trust theme going through it - Martha trusts the Doctor implicitly (which isn't new, saw that in Gridlock). But the Doctor's lost faith in pretty much everything - his line about humans, and he doesn't have that utter faith in Martha like she does of him (that whole chamber scene had multiple lines of "trust me" and "I've got you" etc., but when time to push the button and asked if ready, the Doctor says "No!" and freaks out.) I *hate* that the Doctor's going down this path, but thought that was interesting. And might help explain next week's ep.

I thought it started to drag a bit when they had the escape pod rescue side-trip. It had been clipping along before that, and there the tempo went a bit off. But I was still pretty entertained.
Maybe I've reached my fill of compare/contrast and it's beginning to make me a bit queasy. I don't know.
Well, I would gladly pay money to put an end to the constant repeats. MONEY.

I think you've just hit gold there. That's what it's all about. They are going to drive us mad with all these repeats and then smack us with the equivalent of a squee-lite filter for DW. 1. Filter out all the repeats, 2. Charge money to all the fans sick of seeing it, 3. PROFIT!

And I HATE that they're making Martha's mum out to be evil! I mean... we finally had it! Some sort of... I don't know - emotional connection for Martha. To then take away some of that impact by making her all conniving and working with Saxon - well, it annoys me.
