More Drums talk.
I'm still not really here. Won't be for several hours yet so haven't responded to all comments or read really anyone else's thoughts yet. But had a couple of additional thoughts:
- I am really obsessed with the Master and Lucy at the moment. The Master *still* could have done his freaky hypnosis thing he does so well on Lucy. So it's possible she could be this psychotic groupie wife because of something he did to her. But on the other hand, he could have actually found this soul-mate, so to speak. I'm *really* wondering - is the Master really in love with her? Is he just using her since politicians needs spouses? Obsessed, I tell you! I need Master/Lucy details!
- I'm kinda blanking - did we get an idea of who these ball-things were? I'm wondering if they're some sort of bastardized Gallifreyans. Just like the Emperor of the Daleks made mutant Daleks, the Master's gone and made mutant Gallifreyans?
- I just cannot shake the whole Bad Wolf thing - that it's popped up a couple of time in S3 and in Torchwood. And Jack was saying how he's had a feeling he's been kept alive for a reason. You know how the Master was saying he was setting a trap for the Doctor? Well, what if there was a trap inside the trap? Remember Tooth & Claw? Queen Vic's hubby put things into motion before his death. He wasn't actually involved in the springing of the trap, but... What if Vortex!Rose laid a trap for the Master? She wouldn't be involved in the springing of the trap (because, really, what could Rose herself do in this showdown?), but Bad Wolf put things into motion. *Including* making Jack immortal. Like the Doctor told the Queen - your husband was protecting you from beyond the grave. So perhaps we'll see Rose protecting the Doctor from beyond the grave in a manner of speaking.

I've got no idea about the Toclafane, I'm hardly willing to speculate because I'm sure it will be heartbreaking, finales always are.

I'd love that, and it also works into the 'secret in the heart of the valiant' speculation a while back given that Rose was referred to as the valiant child. Gods I want Rose to save the day in the finale through something she did years back (though of course I'd prefer it if it had to do with leaving herself a way back into this universe). And your idea makes me cry with how beautiful it is, she'd so watch over him from beyond the [Void].

Although, it could be *very* interesting to find out that the Master's kinda created this perfect companion for himself. I'd heard that early on when pitching story ideas, the story first thrown out for Boom Town was that people would find out that the Doctor had in fact created Rose to be his ideal companion. Not sure how exactly, but thank God THAT didn't happen! *SHUDDERS*

I'd heard the thing about "what's the secret that lies in the heart of the Valiant," but I'm assuming they meant the Paradox Machine.

I'd much rather see her back as well, but I do like the idea of Deus ex Rose. :)
I R SMRT
I had to - I had to go and confirm if my suspicion/first impression at the end of the episode was right.
It is :)
STAY AWAY FROM WIKIPEDIA. RESIST THE URGE.
Re: I R SMRT
See, when people say something like that and in all caps, it makes me think it must be big. REALLY really big. And resisting becomes THAT much worse.
*facepalm*
Walking AWAY from the computer now. Trying to resist...
and will probably fail miserably by mid-weekRe: I R SMRT
Now I'm glad I looked first.

I know! They're terribly interesting. I fear Lucy isn't going to live through the next episode, but I'm hoping for at least a little more back story. *crosses fingers*
did we get an idea of who these ball-things were?
My current theory? This is what happened to the people headed toward Utopia. I'm completely unspoiled and want to stay that way, though, so I'm probably wrong.

I'm not holding out hope but I would love it if we got a little Bad Wolf in the next episode.
Gah! I want it to be next Saturday now, thanks.

I would totally love her to stick around, but fear she'll go in one way or another, for she is evil!Rose.

O.M.G!!! That would completely fit - but it'd have to be all of Utopia, not just the people headed there, since...6 billion. But the Master's right - the Doctor's hearts would break. There was that hope of humanity living on, but they've turned into inhuman things, just because they want to escape the darkness.

And oh, I'm sure we could combine your theory with some Time Lords ones. Double the pain and the evil!

Lucy Saxon
I don't know if she's alien or not, or whether she and "Saxon" are a love-match (although that strikes me as a little unlikely for someone whose 'husband' appeared a mere 18 months or so previously), but her calm acceptance of "Saxon's" outrageous behaviour remind me somewhat of a Magda Goebbels or an Eva Braun.

Maybe Lucy is to the Master what Rose is to the Doctor.

My Thoughts on TSOD
2) Poor TARDIS. :(
3) I have a few theories on what the Toclafane are, but I'll keep those to myself for now; I will say this much: quite a few things reminded me of previous baddies and scenes throughout the series.
4) Lucy seems a bit ... robotic.
And my burning question:
5) Will Harry Saxon be killed by an arrow through his eye? Inquiring minds want to know!
Re: My Thoughts on TSOD
3) Hmmm.
4) I suddenly had a thought of Lucy being a Toclafane as well - just she got a body.
5) HA!

I love this theory, very very much. I watched Tooth and Claw again at the weekend and there's a lot of mention of the fact that Queen Victoria liked ghost stories because it hinted at the possibility of hearing from people who'd crossed over - and you're right about her husband protecting her after he died by setting the trap for the werewolf.
*hopes there's something like this in the season finale*

Yeah, they're just so... WRONG. But yet you can't help but love them a bit. :D

I like it as well. 1) They've set up precedent for it, and 2) it would explain the Bad Wolf stuff in S3 and Torchwood.
